I mean it's clear he is heavily influenced by the Middle East and Islam.

Likely as back in his day, this was seen as exotic and not well known by the general public.

Easy to derive from and expand upon.

Of course it's not surprising, but they should have at least kept some of it. Even hardcore Dune fans who aren't necessarily Muslims take issue with modifying this huge part of canon.
