'Drone' spotted flying near Rashtrapati Bhavan, security tightened outside Parliament | Zee News

New DelhiL: In a major security alarm, an unidentified person was spotted flying a suspected helicam near the high-security Vijay Chowk intersection close to Rashtrapati Bhavan and Parliament in New Delhi on Saturday.

Helicams are remote-controlled mini aerial devices, fitted with still or motion film cameras, that are used to shoot aerial pictures or videos.

Police said that the incident was reported in the evening after a media person spotted a foreigner standing on the pavement near Vijay Chowk with a remote control in his hands.

The foreigner was operating a flying object -- suspected to be a helicam -- which was seen hovering around 20-30 feet above the ground, said a police official. The media person told police that when he confronted the foreigner, he stopped the device and fled in a car that was parked near the pavement. The media person further claimed that the vehicle had a diplomatic registration number pertaining to the Russian embassy, said the official.

The incident was caught on camera and the footage -- in which the unidentified man can be seen sporting a white T-shirt and shorts -- has been handed over to Parliament Street police station, said the official.

"The issue came to our notice through the media. We are inquiring into it," said DCP (New Delhi) Jatin Narwal. He said that a special team is studying the video footage and further action will be initiated accordingly.

Police said that it is only when the person who was operating the device is questioned can it be known whether the gadget was actually equipped with a camera and if he was taking photographs or videos in the high-security zone.

Meanwhile, following the incident, security was tightened in and around Parliament Street and several police teams were deployed in the area.

Don't try to buy expensive drone killing lasers from west, instead make things here in India.

Interesting development. That too a Russian Spy  ............ Russian bear back to their old tricks.

At least the CIA do not get caught trying such stunts :P

Maybe he was providing guidance for someone who had already penetrated the rashtrapati Bhavan.......... which begs the question. Why don'g they have jammers around the vicinity of the building ?

Yesterday was Saturday and as usual sadarday, thousands of people come to India gate with family to enjoy.
The drone was the toy drone with the camera, and the russian technician working in the embasy too came here with children. He was stopped imeddiately, when few people saw him trying to fly this toy drone, and reported to Delhi police personal thereafter, it was siezed by the delhi police. Now what is the big deal here, and why media is giving so much importance, when lot of more important issues are left uncovered.

Let Police do its investigation, but personally I think it was not deliberate, and ignorance of the area which is under high security zone and banned of flying such drones.

1. Report says Rashtrapati Bhavan and not India gate.

2. Diplomatic staff do not know largt part of Delhi is No Fly zone ? :cheesy: ....... this is true for ANY capital city in the world.

3. Why did he run away from the scene ? If he is a diplomatic staff, he had immunity. There as no need to run away as reported.

The middle-aged foreign national was seen by some locals flying a drone in the company of a young boy near Vijay Chowk around 6 p.m.

Here the point is this. Indian diplomats and even Indian citizens are law abetting citizens in other countries.

But still people in these countries let Indians to live in peace and harmony and play games and openly violate International laws and conventions.
