[Dragon Alliances] China First Overseas Military Base Construction Begins in Djibouti !

Yes precisely.

No, you said "the US is expected to leave Djibouti. ;)" Not "the US is leaving Obock"

Are you going to do the usual...

"I have no idea why you think the above since I never stated anything like that. If that is the inference you make from what I posted well that is your interpretation and not mine"

I had thought the US would leave its naval base in Djibouti. I didn't know it was transferring to another location. So , the news is news to me. Thanks for the update.

Welcome move, once CPEC is in full swing, Gwadar should also have joint Pak-China naval base, would prove to be vital for regional stability !!!

The Chinese wanted a base near the main port of Port of Djibouti - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Unfortunately that would be WAY too close to our main base of Camp Lemonnier. So they were offered a spot on the opposite side of the Gulf of Tadjoura - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia in Obock.

Obock in north side of gulf in the pic in the northeast (little black dot).
Port of Djibouti on the south side of the gulf (black square) and near the main US base.

The US is moving their stuff out of the north side of the gulf and moving it to the south

Thanks for the clarification, i do appreciate it.

As for China's ascendancy and success in finalizing this partnership with Djibouti, this is impressive and a totally new paradigm shift for East Asia. We Japanese just got into Djibouti in 2010, and 6 years later, the Chinese are soon to start coming as well. I suppose this indicates a more active role of both China and Japan in our maritime security, and pro-stabilization operations in the Greater Persian Gulf Region.

Symbolic of East Asia's awakening, i suppose. Worry not Peter, this shouldn't be considered a threat for our American and European partners, but should be seen as Japan's and China's rise to the occasion , and to reduce the burden on America's (and NATO's) shoulders, so to say.

No, it's not a threat since China didn't have the leverage to kick us out of the south side where most of our key assets are located. If we were forced to the north then we would be in trouble and we would be the ones who would have to build a new base.

Peter, do you really doubt China's ability to build bases? I assure you, i expect to see this new base to be world class.

I suppose we all must be ready to see the arrival of China's Marine Corp here soon. I want to see our Rikusentai boys training with Chinese Marines. Imagine it, Peter, seeing a Japanese battalion sized force training with a Chinese battalion sized force. Both Chinese and Japanese flags proudly unfurled, waving as the thunderous sounds of our boys .... echoing throughout the horizon.

Yes, they are parked on the south side of the gulf near the US base. They will park on the north side of the gulf away from the US base in the future. That pic is near the main port in the south...not the Obock port in the north. I believe Japan's base is also in the south (not Obock). In the future China will probably not be allowed to park their military ships in the South anymore.

I never said I doubted their ability to build a base???

You are too busy waving flags than to stop and understand what is going on. I can't believe you insinuated the US is leaving Djibouti!! Far from it! We still have lots of clout there as evidenced by the US stopping China from having a base leveraging the main port and International airport. We could have been kicked out of that area instead..and have to start from scratch.

LOL, don't be too quick to write anything out of the picture. Do remember that China has been instrumental in creation of the Addis Ababa - Djibouti Railway:

The construction team is China Railway Group and the China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation. It was financed by Exim Bank of China, the China Development Bank and the Industrial and Commercial Bank of China.

I expect the China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation to do a magnificent job in the genesis of a China-port in Djibouti. And I also hope that when finished , the Chinese will invite the Japanese for joint naval, air, and ground training.
