Donald Trump victory means ‘the era of a Palestinian state is over,’ Israeli minister says

“Trump’s victory is an opportunity for Israel to immediately retract the notion of a Palestinian state in the centre of the country, which would hurt our security and just cause,” Naftali Bennett, the Minister of Education, said in a press release on Wednesday morning.

“This is the position of the President-elect, as written in his platform, and it should be our policy, plain and simple. The era of a Palestinian state is over.”

The Israeli government has officially been working towards a two-state solution to the intractable Israeli-Arab conflict for years, although resistance from the militant Hamas movement that rules the Gaza Strip and continued disagreement over Israeli settlement building in the West Bank has hindered recent attempts at peace talks.

Mr Bennett expressed his congratulations to Donald Trump and gratitude to Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton for her “friendship with Israel”.

Both candidates had broadly said that if elected they would continue in the line of current US policy on the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, which by and large advocates for a two-state solution, although an advisor to Mr Trump said in October that the candidate is “sceptical” of the efficacy of a two-state solution.

In a meeting with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in New York in September, Mr Trump said he would take the unusual step of recognising Jerusalem as Israel's capital, a statement which angered Palestinians, who also claim the city as their own.

Mr Bennett – the child of American immigrants to Israel – has led the country’s right-wing religious The Jewish Home party since 2012. He was appointed to Mr Netanyahu’s coalition government as education minister last year.

He is in favour of a “tripartite” solution to the Arab-Israeli conflict, in which the Palestinian territories are annexed by the state of Israel but governed by the Palestinian Authority, and the Gaza Strip handed over to the supervision of Egypt.

Mr Netanyahu also congratulated Mr Trump on his election win, calling him “a true friend of the state of Israel” with whom he “looks forward to working with... to advance security, stability and peace in our region”.

Not that I thought a viable Palestinian State was possible anymore...still, there you are.

.
Palestinians always had few friends in US, be they Democrats or Republicans. To get Iran deal done, Obama sold Palestinians down the river.

The "Palestinian" state was never born, let alone died.
Now as we say in Israel
Eat your own heart.

LOL! Some more baseless facts made by a PAKISTANI! do you think you actually have any roots to Islam?

The Palestinian state died the day Arab countries recognized Israel.
The palestinian state has died as soon as it invented, but if you want go ahead with the years then when hamas built is own state in gaza the idea is gone

.
How so? Will the 5 million Palestinians living in Palestine suddenly disappear? If Israel absorbs them into Israel, Israel will become majority Arab. So what is the solution?

Emirates in sinai , one emirate for every tribe, they can unite the emirates in some combination like the UAE.
They already and always were lived and behaved in trible behavior .
This is how they can ruled themself without dictators, without civil/tribe/family wars, without siege, with no terror and no threats to israel or egypt/other arab contries, israel will help them with everything, they can build their own armies, police,no israeli army, with no corrupt leaders who forced on them, with no hamastan ot fatahstan.
people will have new home, food to eat......,sunni arabs and israel will make peace then and they all will work on how to improved the ME together(probably without the iranian axis)

Unfortunately there is no,look it's well known that nobody realy cares about israelis or palestinians, they only care about their ideology/interest.2 state solution it's a good example, stupid people in the west wants a new "Sykes-Picot".
Even if an arab palestinian state will be established in some land out of israel control(sinai/jordan/saudia) the palestinians themselves will suffer, from dictatorship, corruption, poverty, civil wars, tribal wars, terrorism, lack of independence, extremists, etc."palestinian state" it's not a solution,
Besides it will be a new enemy of Israel, it does not solve the problems of the people who are in trouble, we must not forget that one of the main problems is people who live poorly without hope, without a chance, unable to move forward because of the elitist jerks.
I do not want to see people living in bigger shit than they live in today, and I believe that you do not want to see it too.
There is no realistic solution.
The solution should be based on what I wrote in the previous comment, unless everybody will suffer more than now.

I do not understand your rhetoric. Currently 20,8% of Israel's population is Palestinian Arab (Muslim and Christian). They are part of the Israeli state on all fields as Israeli Jews are of all backgrounds and ethnicities. There are Arab parties in the parliament, Arab parliamentarians, Arab generals, businessmen, scientists, teachers, public servicemen etc. Israelis and Arabs live together in almost every Israeli region and city side by side. Intermarry with each other too even. You talk as if they were alliens . You yourself told that you have Arab friends.

Those same Arabs that you believe it is impossible to make peace with lived peacefully with Jews throughout 95% of recorded history. As far back as King Herod the Great who was half Arab (Nabatean from modern-day Hijaz). That was 2100 years ago.

Obviously the past 70-80 years have destroyed a lot but it is not impossible to have cordial ties again by large. We are cousins after all and have more in common than what divides us. This is the reality.

Germans killed 6 million Jews (did 1 million times more evil to you than Arabs ever will in history) as well as many Europeans throughout history or let alone the Catholic Church, yet it seems that most Jews have forgotten this/pushed it aside despite it only happening 70 years ago.

Why can't there be a two-state solution? You have enough of land. Most of Israel is uninhabited. As technology improves the Negev can become fertile again.

Or a single state with vast autonomy for what is today Israel and the Palestinian territories.

Do we really need more hostility in this region? When will we learn?

Your solution is not a realistic one and obviously ridiculous due to too many reasons. No disrespect.

No problems with arabs in israel, there is demographic problem with more arabs will be inside israel.
And i said above even if you will establish palestinian state in sinai/jordan it will be a bigger problem then before and i explained why above

If Palestinian Arabs inside Israel are not a problem then how can Palestinian Arabs in the Palestinian territories be a problem in case of a two-state solution? I don't understand it unless you support the notion of Israel annexing all of Palestine.

If you do such a thing you are forced to accept 5 million Palestinian Arabs and thus cannot complain about demographic changes because Palestinians living in those territories are not going anywhere.

Sinai is bigger than Israel but mostly mountainous and arid. It cannot sustain 5 million + people. Let alone Egypt never agreeing to such a thing. Same story with Jordan which is already overpopulated in many areas.

KSA? We already host 1 million Palestinians and even if we presume that we welcomed all 5 million Palestinians they themselves would not want to leave their own lands.

So the only solution is a two-state solution which would be a perfect start in order to improve relations and leave the past behind.

Let's assume that "2 states" will happen, still it will not success, and everybody will blame everybody like drunken donkeys

Why? In case of a two-state solution each country could do whatever it wanted to do internally as long as international law was followed and they did not threaten each other. In case of threats or wars each state would have a right to defend itself. Like every other state.

Either a two state solution or 1 single state. The first option is much more realistic than the second option. The first option enjoys by far the most support among both peoples too. Therefore it makes the most sense.

Border disputes could be solved mutually and possible population movements and if not possible this could be done by the international community or at least aided by it.

Not sure what else to do? Anyway it is up to you both what to decide and to figure out if you are content with status quo.
