MARGAO: "I gave instructions to the armed forces personnel to shoot at anyone possessing an AK-47 machine gun as it is obvious that they do not have any good intentions," remarked Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar on Saturday.
Parrikar made this remark while addressing a massive crowd that had gathered for the BJP's election campaign 'Vijay Sankalp Mahamelava' held at the Government Multipurpose high school grounds in the Fatorda constituency.

It happens when you appoint a civilian as D.M but technically he is correct in fact all assault rifles are machine guns with lower calibre and fire power.

Again it would be wrong submachine guns often use pistol rounds. Technically all these guns are machine guns but modified to fire in select mode semi or auto but categrized in three groups heavy caliber called machine guns, medium ones which fire rifle rounds called assault rifles and guns which fires pistol caliber rounds called smg.
