Diplomatic coup for Modi: UK govt moves to normalize ties with Gujarat

NEW DELHI: The United Kingdom government on Thursday made a big announcement on diplomatic relations with Gujarat, saying it would work towards normalizing ties with the state. It also said the British high commissioner would visit Gujarat to increase engagement with the state.

Thye announcement marks the end of Narendra Modi's diplomatic isolation in the aftermath of the Gujarat riots in 2002.

The Gujarat government welcomed the move and UK's policy change on the state after 10 years, and termed it a big victory for the state.

Modi, who tweeted on the change in UK's policy, said the move was 'better late than never'.

"Der Aaye Durasta Aaye!! I welcome UK Govt's step for active engagement & strengthening relations with Guj. God is Great," the Gujarat chief minister tweeted. Modi has not visited UK since 2003.

The announcement by the British deputy foreign minister Hugo Swire in a press release comes as a welcome development, given the numerous linkages between people and institutions of Gujarat and UK.

No what it means is that UK will no longer ride the fake moral horse it has been riding since 2002 and diplomatic officials will visit Modi on 'tips' for good governance and other business related matters ~ which had been on hold since 2002.

Actually for Indians it does not matter a bit ~ what the Goras think ~ but hey if it helps him in his campaign, then so be it
