To exchange views with the members of Pakistan-Japan Parliamentary Friendship Group (PJPFG) in the National Assembly, the Ambassador of Japan, Hiroshi Inomata and Mrs Midori Inomata hosted a dinner at their residence.

The event was attended by Speaker National Assembly Sardar Ayaz Sadiq, Special Assistant to the Prime Minister and President of the Group Syed Tariq Fatemi, other members of the Friendship Group — which included five female parliamentarians; the outspoken head of his own political party, Sheikh Rashid Ahmad, and members of the Japanese embassy.

While waiting for guests to arrive, images of Japan’s beautiful countryside, its flora and fauna and cultural heritage were screened with lilting music playing in the background — creating a soothing atmosphere. There was a beautiful flower arrangement created by Midori Inomata placed near the entrance, while a scene ‘painted’ in the traditional Japanese art of Bonseki was showcased in the room. This art form is her hobby — it is created by using special salt and fine brushes to create images on a flat surface — a rare art form we in Pakistan are not familiar with. Welcoming his guests the host said that he had thought it was time there should be a get- together with the PJPFG and he was happy that his invitation had been accepted to share a little Japanese culture and interact with each other. “Japan considers Pakistan as one of its close friends and desires to further strengthen bilateral relations,” he said.

“The Embassy of Japan in Pakistan will continue to play its role in improving ties and cooperation between the two countries.” He concluded by hoping his guests would enjoy the evening. In his response Sardar Ayaz Sadiq said that Pakistan attached immense importance to its decades old friendship with Japan and wished to reinforce it through enhanced people-to-people and parliamentary contacts. He expressed the hope that legislators’ contacts between the two countries for exchange of views and experiences would continue and he hoped to be able to invite a delegation from Japan to see for themselves what Pakistan was all about and not go by negative media reports. He concluded by saying he was looking forward to enjoy the Japanese cuisine, which he had missed on a previous occasion.

Fatemi also spoke on the occasion and said that Pakistan appreciated all the help that Japan had given not only in terms of assistance, but during the natural calamities that had befallen the country through the years. It may be mentioned that Japan and Pakistan established diplomatic relation on April 28th 1952 and its economic cooperation for Pakistan in 1954. Since then, Japan and Pakistan have been enjoying cordial and friendly bilateral relations.
