Melaka Gateway was a Malaysian proposal to promote the region as a marine torusim hub. The main undertaker is a Malaysian consortium.

The project was cancelled since the contract date was due.

The developer, KAJ Development Sdn Bhd., failed to complete the some 250ha project, so, its contract was terminated, as per contract terms.

As part of the project, three China developers were going to assist in building a deep sea port.

Since the Melaka Gateway contract now expired, so, is the deep sea project which three China contractors were also a part of.

Yet, China has a number of development projects going on in the ASEAN region, such as:

1. Vientiane with Bangkok & Kunming railway - 420km, country's first

2. Laos-Bangkok HSR

3. The Kyauk Phyu Special Economic Zone (Myanmar)

etc.

You got to understand indonesians have been constantly on the receiving end of the invasions from chinese dutch and japanese in the past 600 years. This is a mentally fragile race. Their hatred towards chinese reflects their deep down unsettled grudge against their ex masters.

We do not need Malacca project for BRI, there are enough ports to handle all the import/exports. Malacca project was an UMNO project that benefit someone's private pockets. Dr. M acted to prevent possible corruption that benefits some members of the previous government.

BRI trade with China carry on un-interrupted, in fact Malaysia's economic recovery next year will depends very much on trade with China. BRI cooperation continue as before.
