What's new

Dhaka metro construction finally begins tomorrow

Lmfao are u kiding me the u need to go out from ur world to see real world. the world longest is in Thailand which is 55 KM long 6 lane express way at the cost of 1 Billion USD. At that time Thai Bhat was 37 to 1 Usd and currently it is around 32-33 to 1 USD in case u want to say oh it was built long ago thats why it was cheap.

2nd one is in Chine which is over sea Bridge of 41.58km, making it the world's second longest road bridge. The oversea bridge, built at a cost of RMB 9.04bn (approximately $1.38bn), was opened to traffic in May 2011, becoming the world's longest oversea bridge.

U know what u guys have excuse to hide corruption and by saying oh no every thing is coming from Japan and it will be out of the world as u can see moon and sun from it also. thats why its too much expensive. If chinese are building cheap in Pakistan. then i think u guys should ask Chinese to build one for you and save money for your country.

@Nilgiri @Khan_21 @Śakra

Don't worry too much about trying to convince them about their atrocious state of bureaucracy, institution and corruption...adding to lack of professional human capital in private sector to begin with....they retreat into denial + justification mode over here....but deep down they know the reality too.

In mean time everyone should focus on doing the best they can in own country and not worry about this small, ingrate, inferiority complex ridden country that suffers from serious lack of "scales of economy". Its becoming more and more a phenomenon of single industry output bloating their nominal USD GDP measurement....and lungis here will thus retreat into that number even more.....while unable to seriously explain its multi-prong effect on USD conversion of these capacity projects for very intricately tied reasons.

For metro train their excuse was bec Japanese are bringing everything from Japan thats why its expensive. For elevated Dhaka Expressway i dont know wat excuse they will have. I think will even import mud and stones from Other countries too to show see every thing is imported thats why its expensive.

True, but still that cost (importing raw materials, because you unable to source any locally) is small in total cost compared to lack of the needed higher end vertical local project management in large scale private construction companies (that you tender to). When you bring in expats, hire only foreign consultancy firms...and all liquidity and planning flows pass through 1000 govt fellows instead of like 10 dedicated ones, thats going to do a nasty combined effect on both initial and final cost of the project...because you have to subsidise foreign companies for effectively the insurance they can dictate to you (and why would they be under pressure to find a good deal on it in their own country?)....you have no choice in the matter. This is essentially same concept of how badly run inefficient monopolies run as well.

I was told by the Hilsa people that because bngldsh is a single ethnic state they are more stable, more capable of growth/development, and all around better than multi-ethnic states. How could it be possible bngldsh is a corrupt, bureaucratic destitute country???

We are comparing cost here right? So kindly enlighten me the cost of 1.7 Billion for this much elevated bridge with 4 lane. Around the world.

Well here is recent example from Malaysia. It costs around 1.1 Billion USd. Length 24 KM. Its above sea.

Some wannabe civil engineer trolls here I see.....

You cannot, repeat, cannot compare projects between countries.

So many variables.

If you are not a civil engineer and don't know squat about the projects, then stop speculating and wasting bandwidth.

Jeez, every thread becomes a OT derailing trollfest.

@Jungibaaz, @waz, @WAJsal bhais please take note of the trolls here.

I'm surprised that Padma bridge project require importing stones from India by trucks when I watched OBOR documentary about BD.
BD is a alluvial flat land made of silt and sand. Some eastern mountains may have small quantities of stones and rock that we cannot dig out economically. On the other hand, countries like India, Nepal and Bhutan are full of rocky mountains. This is why large boulders are imported regularly from India to do work in the Padma Bridge construction. Similar things may also happen in case of Dhaka Metropolitan Railroad construction work as well. India gains by selling many excess goods to the BD market.

Send us the links to prove your costing bias of the projects above. Do you think all guys including those of JICA higher ups are a bunch of stupid like you, who would spend billions instead of millions? Stupid fellow, send us the links and do not troll. No one really asked you to send some photographs.

Dude, this 21km expressway will be completely elevated, along with I think further 20kms of approach roads as well as numerous feeder roads. $1.7 billion is quite reasonable. And yes, this will be the largest of its kind in South Asia and one of the largest in the world.

About the Metro, all the equipment and designs are coming from Japan, so the higher cost. In India, they source most of the equipment locally while in Pakistan, the project is implemented by the Chinese whose products are cheaper than the Japanese, hence the lower cost.

The total length of the expressway is 47 KM including rams and exchange. This is a PPP project, so higher amount is shown to secure better compensation package.

Metro construction contract is given to Syno Hydro and Ital Thai, one is chinese another is thai. The project consultant and financier are Japanese.
Cost includes
1) Land acquisition.
2) Realignment of existing utility service (which is huge)
3) Construction of depot.
4) Construction of elevated tracks.
5) Power plant.
6) Coaches and engines.
7) Platforms.
8) Operational authorities.
9) Duties.

If you ask me, I'm not really interested in comparing. It's just that you were criticizing Indian MRT projects, calling them waste of money & now you're spending thrice the money we spend of the same.

Kind of ironical don't you think ?

.
Guys stop the d!ck measuring and flame baiting campaigns. At least the our first metro rail be completed...who knows how long will it take...

No, you are wrong, Pakistan can erect such an expressway by spending only Rs.1.7 million. That country is very superior in technology. They can erect an expressway over the cloud that needs no columns.

.
I don't know which expressway is the longest in South Asia, but there is already 23 km long one in Kanpur.

ruling awami league cheerleading brigade has tendency to boast everything as world best and south asia best etc. When in fact these idiots have little or no clue outside the awami world of propaganda they live in. So you need to bear with these cheerleaders hype.

JICA is known for its corrupt and inflated cost practice. That is because inflated cost benefits Japanese companies. And in the business of inflated cost or known as looting, ruling awami league regime in Bangladesh is the champion. How else every project including Dhaka Chittagong highway which is mostly in flat land cost much more than anywhere in the world. It is this looting champion awami league inflated the solar energy production cost many times more than any other country. You caught red handed propagating awami league lie, so its futile to hide your liar shade.

Why are the Urdu/Hidiwala Pakistanis and Indians are talking to support each other? You guys even do not know the difference in the structures of a railway line and of an expressway. Do you guys have the magz to understand the difference? First go and check both the structures and come back to criticize a JICA project.

Check how many columns may be needed in a 1 km stretch of railway line and how many for an expressway. Note that a train line structure is too heavy and so it is built to support that heavy load requiring much more frequent number of piled foundations comparing to an expressway. This is one of the big reasons that the Dhaka Metro roject will be a little costly.

This is why I mentioned Kochi metro, where the situation is almost same as Dhaka (alluvial soil)

JICA is known for its corrupt and inflated cost practice.
Do not please talk ill about the Japanese people, specially the govt ones, when you have no idea about what and how they are. They are not m*sl*ms like us, so no one is corrupt. This is why they have built their country a Paradise on Earth. Please do not lie about and talk ill of the human quality of Japanese people.

TOKYO, Aug 7, 2017 - (JCN Newswire) - Mitsubishi Corporation (MC) and Kawasaki Heavy Industries Ltd. have been awarded and approximately JPY 40 billion contract for the supply of 144 cars of rolling stock and maintenance depot equipment for Dhaka MRT Line-6 from Dhaka Mass Raid Transit Company Limited (DMTCL), a company owned by the government of Bangladesh

In this contract, Kawasaki will be responsible for overall project management, design, manufacture, testing and commissioning, supply of rolling stock and major depot equipment, provision of training to DMTCL's operation and maintenance personnel. In addition, Kawasaki will supervise maintenance work for rolling stock and depot equipment to be performed by DMTCL, while MC will be responsible for commercial administrations and partial supply of depot equipment.

The rolling stock to be supplied under this contract will be made of stainless steel which has technical advantages such as lightweight and high durability. The rolling stock will be equipped with internal and external CCTV cameras for monitoring passengers' conditions to ensure safety of passengers both in saloons and on the platforms. Besides, two sets of air conditioning units with large capacity will be mounted on each car to sustain comfortable saloon ambience even under high temperature and humidity in Dhaka City.

Dhaka MRT Line-6 will be the first MRT system in Bangladesh with 20km length fully elevated route comprising 16 stations connecting Uttara North to major business and commercial hub of Dhaka, Motijheel. Dhaka is one of the most crowded cities in the world with a population of over 15 million including its surrounding areas where chronic traffic congestion is an issue due to continuous population growth and traffic expansion. It is expected that MRT Line-6 will contribute to promote converting major transportation mode from road to rail and will eventually improve urban convenience, root out economic loss and alleviate greenhouse gas emissions. Meanwhile, construction of Dhaka MRT Line-6 is progressing in full swing with Japan ODA Loan Agreement concerning infrastructure development signed between Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) and the government of Bangladesh.

At present, apart from Dhaka MRT Line-6, construction of other MRT in Dhaka is also being planned. With the rapid economic growth and urbanization, demand for MRT rolling stock in Bangladesh is expected to continue increasing in future as well.

MC and Kawasaki will proactively continue to develop rolling stock business in Bangladesh by effectively utilizing this very first opportunity and will also continue contributing to the development of economy and society in developing countries through urban transport development.

Outline of Rolling Stock for Dhaka MRT Line-6
1) Car Type: Commuter cars (24 six-car trainsets, total of 144 cars)
2) Dimensions: 19.8m (L) x 2.95m (W) x 4.1m (H)
