Dhaka, Nov 18 (bdnews24.com)— Construction of the over eight kilometre-long flyover connecting Maghbazar and Mouchak is likely to kick off early December.

State Minister for Local Government Jahangir Kabir Nanak said Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will lay the foundation stone in the first week of December.

He made the announcement after signing an agreement with Simplex Navana - a joint venture of the Indian company Simplex Infrastructure Ltd and a Bangladeshi outfit Navana - and the Chinese company Metallurgical Construction Overseas, for the construction of the flyover.

The organisations, selected through an international tendering, will construct the flyover in two parts. The Local Government Engineering Department will supervise the construction.

LGED Chief Engineer Wahidur Rahman said the flyover will cost the government over Tk 7.72 billion, of which Tk 3.75 billion will be provided by Saudi Fund for Development while over Tk 1.96 billion by the Opec Fund for International Development (OFID).

The rest of the money will be given by the government of Bangladesh.

Executive Committee of National Economic Council approved the construction of the flyover on Mar 8 last year.

The flyover's construction is supposed to be over within two years.

The four-lane flyover (8.25 KM) will also connect Satrasta Intersection at Tejgaon, FDC, Eskaton, T&T, Rampura's Chowdhurypara, Malibagh, Razarbagh Police Lines and Shantinagar.

"It would reduce traffic congestion and ease communications with the northern part of Dhaka," Nanak said.

Local Government Secretary Abu Alam Md Shahin Khan and Project Director of the flyover Nazmul Hossain were present during signing of the agreement.
