FAISALABAD:
The district government will establish the Faisalabad Parking Company to deal with parking issues in the city, District Coordination Officer Noorul Amin Mengal said on Wednesday. He was talking to reporters after a meeting in this regard.
From execution of the project to awarding the contract, Mengal said the Lahore Parking Company officials would be consulted on the project.
The DCO said that Faisalabad was one of the major districts of the Punjab and was undergoing rapid urbanisation and infrastructure development.
“The district is facing a lot of new issues. One of the most challenging ones is the parking issue,” he said.
Mengal said the idea of establishment of Faisalabad Parking Company was conceived to regulate the parking management company that would work and operate for resolving issues related to parking on scientific lines keeping town planning and urban development in mind.
He said that the Faisalabad Parking Company would be given the mandate to operate, manage and collect revenue from parking sites and to facilitate the public using the latest technological parking equipments and techniques.
The DCO said that three parking plazas were proposed in the busiest commercial areas. He said departments concerned had been given the task to implement the project for redressing vehicle parking problems in the eight markets around the Clock Tower.
He said the district government was taking a number of steps to facilitate traffic police in managing traffic.
He said more than 800 signboards had been removed from various green belts, sidewalks and roadsides in the city.
“These signboards are a hazard for both environment and traffic safety,” the DCO said.
He said the district government would soon identify roads where large hoardings may be allowed.
He said a project of shifting traffic signals onto solar energy was also on the cards.
The DCO later visited the construction site of a truck stand on Sargodha Road.
He directed the officers concerned to complete the first phase as early as possible so that goods transport stand could immediately be shifted outside the city. He examined the plan of the truck stand personally and said that workshops and commercial areas should be developed on priority.
The DCO also visited the Small Industries Estate and directed the Works Department officers to put up estimates for the construction of a dual carriage to link the Industrial Estate with Sargodha Road.
