–14-year-old Ibrahim admitted to PAF hospital with spinal injury

ISLAMABAD: Muhammad Ibrahim, son of Air Vice Marshal Muhammad Athar Shams, was critically injured on Friday morning after a Pakistan Navy (PN) guard opened fire on his car when the driver failed to stop the vehicle for ID verification and inspection at the Zafar Gate of Naval Complex entry in Sector E-8.

Ibrahim, a class VIII student in Bahria Town School and College, was accompanied by his younger brother, a student of grade III in the same institution.

Per details, the driver had rushed the car through the entry gate when the incident happened. The bullet fired by the PN guard hit Ibrahim in the spine. He was immediately rushed to the E9 Pakistan Air Force (PAF) hospital where the bullet was successfully removed from his body, however, the injured boy was reported to be in a critical condition. The boy is reported to be paralysed waist down after undergoing medical treatment.

The car, carrying the registration number UE 482, entered the Naval Complex from Bahria gate. It is pertinent to mention here that Bahria gate could only be used by PN officers.

The sentry, identified as Hameed, fired two rounds on the vehicle but the driver managed to ‘escape’ from the scene. Later, the vehicle was found parked outside the PAF hospital.

PAF officials also arrived on the scene of the incident to initiate an investigation into the incident with the help of footage retrieved from closed-circuit television (CCTV) cameras installed around the gate. It was revealed that 14-year-old Muhammad Ibrahim and his younger brother were both sons of incumbent Air Vice Marshal Muhammad Athar Shams.

After this incident, the provost marshal recommended the installation of automatic metal car barriers at entry points that stops vehicles from moving forward and are only lowered when proper identification papers have been displayed to the sentries. This step is believed to have been taken to discourage security personnel from resorting to extreme measures to stop suspicious vehicles.

The Naval Complex authorities later issued a warning, saying that though no life was lost in the incident, it was important for all visitors hailing from different backgrounds to always stop at the security checkpoints, provide proper identification and move ahead after receiving clearance from the guards.

Really sad and I hope the boy recovers fast
But here it seems the fault of boy and/or his parents.
Class VIII?? is it equivalent to Grade VIII here this normally means age 12-14 yrs old. Can a boy under 16 yrs drive in Pakistan legally? What is exactly the minimum to apply for driving license in Pakistan. I would guess it should be more than 16 yrs.
I hope the sentry is not punished since he was just doing his job especially under the current situation of law and order, such strict orders have to be followed.

Fault of the kids and the bigger question is how come the driver was able to escape???
What if this was a real terrorist?

I think the gate is kept open and everyone is required to stop for ID check. However, the boy didn't care for any such check after all his father is some big gun in the country.

. .
My question is How come a grade VIII kid was able to outsmart the security? The car should have been stopped at all costs. What if trained terrorists had attacked?

Good job by the guard, but the car should never have been able to get away!

guard was faulted how car escaped
boy was faulted why not stopped
and officer shab was faulted how kids take cars or apny baap ka maal smajh ker check posts par ker rahy thy .

Guard can't be blamed in given scenario.

. . .
the guard did the right thing,,,,,, no id check----------- get ready to be shot

the boy who is son of vice marshal must have known protocol

rules are rules,, for everyone,, but some higher up think rules r for lower public /mules

by will of god , pray for quick recovery of the young boy

o bhai kid run away from the gate gaurd ke pass shayed goliyaan khatam ho gai theen 2 ke baad .:undecided: what you will say about escape of a kid from gate ? they loose him even after they fire on him he successfully run away .

It's a common practise to let underage kids drive cars and bikes in Pakistan. Unknown to traffic rules, driving ethics and craze for overspeeding, they endager the lives of others along with their own. Traffic law enforcement authorities must go tough on underage drivers and their guardians.
The kid who got shot here cannot be blamed entirely as the guards in that particular area are big on harssing non-uniformed people. It's a high security area and there are several levels of security checks in place and if the kid managed to got near the gate, it was because he got clearance from the previous ones. The guard made a bad judgement call, as obviously he may have seen both the passengers aged 14 and 7 years old and not contempelating the situation properly he still fired. Holding a gun doesnt warrant a license to shoot at will everytime ones suspicions are stoked.

Attacks on GHQ, Mehran base, Kamra base still our security lapses never cease
In all these insatances terrorists wore military uniforms and take my personal word on this, if it was a man in uniform not obliging the guard, he would never have got shot at.

Sir tu c thora wadai ho. Main samjadhan wan:

IF the car had talibans in it. IT WOULD NEVER HAD MADE IT THERE! BECAUSE THERE ARE CHECKPOSTS AT EVERYSECTOR. NOT TO MENTION PATROLS.
He probably lived at Air complex and went to Bahria college.
Stop raving at the first chance u get. Makes u seem like quite a mindless bigot.

Terrorists wouldnt have made that far in Islamabad. There are multiple checkposts in every sector and at almost all service roads. The kid probably lived in Air Complex.
