Democracy a must for Indo-Pak peace: PPPP

NEW DELHI: The Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) has said that the peace process between Pakistan and India would gain impetus only under a democratically-elected government in Islamabad.

Concluding its three-day visit to India on Wednesday, the six-member PPP delegation said that a democratic government led by the party could have handled sensitive issues between the two countries in a “better and more honourable manner” than the current military government. Amin Fahim, who led the delegation, said that the PPP had long been advocating tripartite talks on the Kashmir issue. including the Kashmiri leadership as well as that of India and Pakistan, he said.

“Prime Minister Manmohan Singh told us that India and Pakistan should work closely to fight terrorism and poverty,” Fahim said.

He said that the PPP delegation had also apprised Indian leaders of the upcoming meeting between Benazir Bhutto and Nawaz Sharif. The two leaders are scheduled to meet in London on May 14 to sign a ‘Charter of Democracy, he said.

Amin Fahim said that the Charter would be a “roadmap” for the restoration of democracy in Pakistan. “When it is ready, we will consult other parties in the Alliance for the Restoration of Democracy for its ratification,” he said.

He said that the delegation had twice met leaders of BJP, but had been unable to meet Congress President Sonia Gandhi. “We tried, but were told that she was busy in preparations for state elections. We will meet her when we visit again. This is not our last visit,” said a member of the delegation.

How much democracy would a nation want? Pakistan does follows the path of democracy even when the west calls it a military dictatorship, polls held in the country without any fraud, and it went fine. What kind of a dictator would allow polling? Pakistani media recieves full rights, while in India the media is much pro. Pakistani media is even allowed to critcize Pakistani government where in America it rarely happens.

There are countries which are given the title of democratic nations but still are not that democratic. Their democracy is corrupt!

In addition to that a government like Musharraf is only in interest of United States and its so called war on terror. Pakistan is spending thousands of dollers while not getting enough from the United States, its called fighting another mans war on your own expense, and the next day you recieve a news criticizing Pakistan that it is not doing enough.

How much democracy would a nation want?

As much as it takes to confidently engage a nation and guarantee that Pakistan would not violate a peace agreement because a General decided to become the CEO of the state by overthrowing the government(or a General) who signed the deal.

We have seen it happen.

What kind of a dictator would allow polling?

The problem is not with the Dictator. Its with the others who want to be dictators. The problem(as of now) is not with individuals. Its with the system that will never guarantee the establishment of a stable form of government.

Without a sustainable stable form of Government its hard for others to be confident about the implementation of any agreement signed by Pakistan.

Pakistani media is even allowed to critcize Pakistani government where in America it rarely happens.

Why bring in Amreeka here?
Boss, you're thread crapping too! :cool2:

How come all the Indian Defence scandals, Failed projects and a lot more comes out and published?????

Their democracy is corrupt!

The two most honest politicians I know in South Asia.

1) Nawaz Sharif
2) Benazir Bhutto

Promoting an officer just coz he is a Punjabi is corruption.

Arresting and kicking out the PM who promoted me to the General's rank against all odds is a bigger corruption than that.
