Bull,

Suresh Kalmadi is the biggest corrupt bastard in the indian sports scene. He will do anything to make money; he has been the president of IOC for nearly 10-15 years.

And thats the reason why i think, india will fail to hold it. Bernie knows how to run his business, he has stringent standrads..tracks like silverstone and indianopolis faces threat of being axed, it neds to be seen how well kalmadi does to keep his promises.

If India manages to hold a F1 Race in two years time I would really be suprised. However if it does it than India is well on its way to being a developed country and it will be a good indicator of how robust the economy is.

All said and done a F1 Infrastructure is akin to building a greenfield airport and I understand land acquisation is a real problem in any democracy especially in India. Just try to imagine displacing 200000 people to build a race track which will be used once a year ?

You guys may correct me if I am wrong ?

Regards

Its not going to happen New Delhi is a tentative destination. Bernie is reprotedly given strict conditions. They wud allow the race to happen only if thos earemet. We have 2 years to make the ciricuit...the airport...medical team..and other logistical issues. No way.

I was watching the F1 at Monaco and one of the people ITV interviewed roaming on the race track was the worlds second richest man Mr Laxmi Mittal the Indian tycoon. He mentioned he was there as a guest of Bernie E. Also all of us in UK read about him splurging GBP 70 miilion for a house in London which he incidentally bought from Bernie E.

So may be Mittal is backing the F1 secretly to race in India ? That would make things move fast.

I an sure if the indians can build a nuclear bomb they will be able to keep up to the standards of F1.

Was it not the same person that got the deal sorted to get india F1?

To be honest if the government goes into it all by itself then I am sure they are going to screw it badly. Get a private player and it can definately be pulled off. BTW, New Delhi is undergoing major transformation for 2010 commonwealth games. Airport is being refurbished, several hotels are being built & race is going to happen close on the heels of the games so I am hopeful it can be squeezed in. Preparation for the race isn't going to be bigger than the CW games.
