Defence czar draws flak from PTI for suggesting the army pick its own chief

This point by Kh Asif also gives rise to a couple of problems:

1- In-fighting. If you do not have a simple senior most gets to be Chief, you can bet your bottom dollar that there would be infighting within the top ranks and a bickering for the top spot. Chabloosian, and buttering will be free for all. Not to say it doesn't happen right now, but it's at a minor scale.

2- The comparison with the judiciary is pointless. The judiciary is an arm of the state, like the parliament and executive. The military isn't an arm of the state, but a part of the executive. In such a system, the COAS reports to the Secretary Defence and up goes the chain. Why not let the FBR chairman choose the successor then? Or governor state bank? Or IG of police? Understand the fallacy with this argument then?

Kh Asif has in effect here reduced the concept of the constitution to zero, aur yehi log 4 maheenay pehle ayen aur jamhuriat kay naray lagatay thay. He has admitted that not only de facto, but in his eyes de jure the military is an independent arm of the state.

Boot polish is going up a notch.

Respected sir..

1- Is the meeting of a general (won't say the exact rank) with 20 dissident MNA's regarding the VoNC in line with the constitution?

2- Is the meeting of top brass with N leadership, and also with Nawaz Sharif to find a way back in line with the constitution?

3- Are the directions of the military to Zardari to rope in all the members of opposition in line with the constitution?

4- Are the orders for BAP and MQM in line with the constitution?

5- Are the promises made by the military to Nawaz Sharif et al in line with the constitution? (The promises haven't yet been fulfilled, but that's another story)

The establishment has almost never acted in line with the constitution, neither do I see it doing that for the foreseeable future. Sadly.

Isn’t Khawaja Asif the champion of democracy who recently said that the serving President of Pakistan is ignorant and he doesn’t accept the authority of his office? What a joke.

Posting this photo earned me a negative rating not that long ago, to protect the Army's dignity, but apparently now it is okay, and indeed encouraged. Before this post too is deleted for "being off-topic", let me remain ON TOPIC:

It does not really matter who the Army Chief is, or how he/she is appointed. What is critical is the Army seeing itself as subject to the Constitution, or not. As long as the Army is supra-Constitutional, as exemplified by the photo above, and justified by its sycophants, and indeed glorified for acting in such an illegal manner, nothing will improve in Pakistan.

Admittedly, the is a long history of the Pak Army interfering in Pakistani politics, but at this juncture PA are acting in line with the Constitution and have decided to stay neutral. Why then politicians intent on dragging the Army into the politics? As if 2014 speech by Nawaz Sharif at Gujranwalla was not enough; Imran khan has called the sitting Arm Chief Mir Jafar!

I have not commented on this earlier because I have been disgusted by the political parties in general and PTI in particular, on calling Pak Army's support to help them retain/ or return to power.
Whatever happened in the past is water under the bridge. I would leave Pak Army out of it and let the politicians fight it out.
The army is supposed to protect Pakistan from internal threats too.

Agr nahi krna because they wanna stay neutral I propose slashing the budget by 75%.

Incorrect. According to the Constitution, the military ha NO specified role against internal threats. This falsehood is perpetuated by sycophants who wish to continue see military meddling in political and other internal affairs to the nation's detriment, by creating and/or contributing to such threats on one hand, and then acting supra-Constitutionally to pretend to protect the nation from them.
