Jan 28: Twelve-year-old Kashif is on a crash course to become a semi- skilled construction worker. Like hundreds of thousands of other children from the poor classes he had to quit school to explore ways to feed the family. With father unable to work and most of his seven siblings being younger to him, Kashif had no other choice. He is trying to learn skills rather than letters. He quit school because he had no money. Ironically, as an apprentice at this construction site at Aabpara he is not expected to be paid. But he is still contended as he gets free food and tea for his labours. His Ustad or trainer says he is a fast learner, and may soon qualify to be a full-time worker. Kashif’s own dream is to be an expert mason, if not a qualified civil engineer. Who knows some day his hard work and dedication do pay off! — Photo by Tanveer Shahzad

Very endearing but heartbreaking aswell, I hope his dedication pays out and he becomes a sucessfull civil engineer.

If somebody knows this kid or the company he's working for please pm me, I'm willing to pay for his further studies.

The government should establish vocational schools where construction skills are taught, like here in the US there are private degree schools which offer construction management courses.
