Chennai: Strongly condemning the death penalty awarded to five Tamil Nadu fishermen by a Sri Lankan court, the AIADMK government on Thursday said it has 'incensed' all sections of the society and sought Prime Minister Narendra Modi's intervention for their release.In a letter to Modi, Chief Minister O Panneerselvam described the verdict as "unjust" and raised apprehension whether the fishermen received a fair trial."On behalf the people of Tamil Nadu, I strongly condemn the unjust conviction meted out to the five Indian fishermen from Rameswaram Emerson, Agastas, Wilson, Prasath and Langlet," he said.He said "the state government had insisted these fishermen were innocent and the case had been foisted on them and also that the evidence against them in the court is a fabrication".

World came out of cold war long back , some countries are still struck. Srilnaka would not be a stupid to have a fight with a country which can be its best market.

During cold war , USA had plans to establish a naval base in Lanka and Soviets didnt like it. they wanted a base for themselvs, then came this problem of tamils. It was blown out of proportions by politicians in tamilnadu. Unlike pakistan India border, sirlanka india border is sea, an easy catmaran can help people to go from here to there.

Well the story is over now. Now it is time for better ties.

Unlike our neighbors in west, srilankan people have direct cultural relation with India for 1000s of years . so they wont be stupids to destroy India.

you should check out whom Lanka supported in the 1971 Indo -Pak war. The 1000 yr cultural sentiment doesn't work with Lanka as Lanka got its own identity but deluded Indians are living in the past glory
