DD office stormed; three jawans killed - Hindustan Times
Maoists killed four jawans of the Chhattisgarh Armed Forces (CAF) and injured another in two separate attacks in Chhattisgarhs Bastar division on Sunday.
The first incident took place at 2 am. In a first-of-its-kind attack, Maoists entered the premises of the Doordarshan transmission centre in Jagdalpur and fired at the sentry, killing him on the spot. Then they entered the relay centre and fired at three security personnel there.
Two of them died immediately and the third was critically injured. He was eventually air-lifted to Raipur for medical treatment.
The rebels apparently targeted the force rather than the transmission centre to create terror, district superintendent of police Mayank Shrivastava said.
The attack comes as a surprise as of all the seven districts in the Maoist-hit Bastar zone, Jagdalpur is the least affected. In the past, Maoists have targeted mobile towers with the intention of disrupting the communication network.
Soon after the incident, additional forces were rushed to the spot and security arrangements of strategic establishments in all Maoist-affected districts of Chhattisgarh were enhanced.
