Two armed men in AK Party's Istanbul Kartal district branch have been neutralized and arrested.

The attackers reportedly told everyone to leave the building before they occupied it. They went up to the seventh floor, where they broke the glasses of two windows and flew a Turkish flag with a sword sign on it.

According to police transmitters, gun shots could be heard after the men entered the building and called for a negotiator while they were inside.

It was reported that police units have been deployed and the roads in front of the building have been closed as a security measure.

An ambulance was also waiting at the scene in case of an emergency.

No casualties were reported.

The incident comes a day after Mehmet Selim Kiraz, the Turkish prosecutor was held as hostage and killed by outlawed DHKP-C terrorists on Tuesday in Istanbul's Çağlayan Courthouse.

Who could have done it? I have my guesses.

After a nationwide blackout across Turkey on Tuesday, different scenarios for reasons for the power outage have been circulating.

As Taner Yıldız, Minister of Energy and Natural Resources, said on Tuesday that there was an investigation being carried out into whether the blackout was a result of an operational fault or a cyber attack, the possibility of a cyber attack became a matter of debate.

According to cyber security expert Thomas Siebel, the possibility should be taken into serious consideration.

Speaking at an energy conference 'Energy Thought Summit' last week, Siebel, CEO of C3 Energy which produces software for smart networks, said many grid circuits across the world are vulnerable to hacking attacks. Siebel claimed the reason for this situation is insufficient investments in the cyber security area of grid circuits.

According to NTV, another expert Javier Vazques Vidal agrees with Siebel. Vasquez also claimed the system is not protected enough, causing more cyber attacks. He said at a meeting called 'Black Head Europe' held in Amsterdam last year that cyber pirates can infiltrate grid circuits and cause wide power outages by controlling the system remotely after obtaining security ciphering and taking command of the hardware.

Power outages in Brazil in 2005 and 2007 affected millions of people and, after investigations, CBC news channel claimed that the blackouts were the result of cyber attacks.

no thanks needed LOL

It is possible that it could be a cyber attack but there has been no evidence released to the public that indicates that it is, the only reason why a cyber attack was discussed is because Taner Yildiz said that we can't rule out a cyber attack, then some other officials said that all possibilities are being investigated. With that being said if the incident was a cyber attack and was done by foreign countries such as iran-syria, or Russia then the timing was dumb because now the people in charge of the security at all of the power stations will try to fix the security issues that were present, if they can successfully fix it then the attackers would have to start from zero. This type of attack would have been best used if Turkey invaded syria or starting fighting with Iran because it would actually have an effect. Another option regarding the timing of this attack is that Iran got mad after erdogan's comments on yemen and decided to launch this attack as a warning message to Turkey saying that we can do this and even more so you better watchout. If this is the case then things look very scary because other critical infrastructure and military systems could already be infiltrated.

Various conversations of high level officials have been leaked, most recently by the Syrian Electronic Army which released internal emails of Turkish Officials. This makes me believe that in a war situation the adversaries would always be a step ahead of Turkey.

The future isn't all dark and grim, the military and government are catching up but it will still take time for them to be at the desired level as it takes years to train qualified people and it takes years to develope your own cyber security technologies. All turks can play a role in securing the nation's critical infrastructure and general security by following basic information security practices when they are online and when they are transferring information on USB's, hard drives etc.

couple of days ago there was major blackout in Amsterdam.

. . . .
as i heard from some experts, it is caused by a weak ring of chain , to turn off system gradually due to shrinks in frequency.
My opinion,
if it was a cyber attack , they could easily give massive and permanent damage instead of temporary shutdown. For people who may claim that hackers found out where is the weak ring to cause domino effect, that is almost impossible, they should be expert about the issue also with datas of electricity distrubition system.

The only Turkish city which was not affected by the outage was Van, which get its electricity from Iran:

One of the few cities unaffected by the power cut was Van in the east of the country, where electricity is supplied from Iran.

Really considering whether we should contact webmaster on merging the iranian sector of this forum with that 'stupid and funny from all over the world' thread to increase the fun level of that thread lol.
