ISLAMABAD: The Customs Intelligence has arrested five officials for allegedly facilitating smuggling of liquor by a fake company, Luner Product, which claimed to have a contract for supplies to Nato forces in Afghanistan.

The arrested Customs officials were accused of issuing a ‘border clearance certificate’ at the Torkham border to containers of the fictitious company which were later found in Peshawar by the Customs Intelligence.

According to Customs sources, trucks of National Logistic Cell (NLC) were used for transporting containers to Afghanistan.

Munir Qureshi, a senior official of the Federal Board of Revenue, confirmed on Monday the arrest of the customs officials and smuggling of liquor by Luner Product company under the cover of supplies to Nato forces in Afghanistan.

Sources said officials of the Customs Intelligence had found some containers which were being dismantled by scrap dealers at Ring Road in Peshawar.

Further investigation by the Customs Intelligence revealed that the containers had been imported by the ghost company on the pretext of supplying goods to Nato forces in Afghanistan.

The sources said that when Customs Intelligence officials got in touch with Nato officials in Kabul, they denied the import of these containers by the alliance and clarified that no company by the name of Luner Product had a contract for Nato supplies.

After the Nato denial, Customs Intelligence officials opened three containers of the same company at the Karachi Port and found liquor in them.

The sources said that the company had imported 43 containers to date and some of them were seized in Peshawar and three at the Karachi Port.

In what appears to be one of the biggest frauds in Pakistan's history, more than 11,000 containers of the International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) containing goods worth over a whopping 220 billion rupees have gone 'missing.'

The containers, which were used to transport prohibited and non-prohibited goods for the NATO forces stationed in Afghanistan, have mysteriously disappeared over the past two years owing to the prevalent massive corruption in the Customs department.

According to the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) these containers were imported to provide equipments to the international forces in Afghanistan and contained weapons, liquor, military uniforms and other prohibited and non-prohibited materials, The Nation reports.

"During last two years, around 11,727 containers were imported but the goods were unloaded in Pakistan despite the fact that these were meant for Afghanistan," the FBR said.

Investigations have revealed that goods from these containers were loaded down in Karachi but their fake registration was made at Torkham, Afghanistan.

Following the scam being revealed, authorities have filed a case against the service provider.

However, there has been no official word over the issue so far. (ANI)

Perfect!

Unload the containers, sell off the goods and earn money and then torch the containers.

No wonder NATO is looking for alternate routes to afghanistan:azn::azn::azn:

Perfect!

Unload the containers, sell off the goods and earn money and then torch the containers.

Thats a bharti orange view without proofs ;)

read the news from different sources. The containers are torched by militants along with the goods, supplies. And many a times they even looted the military equipment.

BTW Indian Orange media should be knowing that NATO supplies are contracted to private Cos and not Govt of Pakistan so

How about you use your brain, if selling them was the case whatever good goto Afghanistan come back on sale in the markets in Faqirabad anyway.

This is just another in a long line of attacks targetting NATO containers, it has been repeatedly suggested to re-driect the containers to a seperate dry port being constructed in Baluchistan but the US is not 100% on that decision.

So they have to travel from Karachi to Rawalpindi and from Rawalpindi to NWFP and then onto Afghanistan, can you honestly tell me the OPSEC of containers carrying such senstive goods can be gaurenteed when you use civillian contractors and are travelling in and out of red-zones?

I remember Jana calling Indian rice merchants thieves because they were buying rice from Pakistani merchants and selling it further at a profit . Wonder what category these Pakistani bretheren of hers fall under. ;)

First things first.

"Bharat" is the name of the country. It's citizens are called "Bhartiya" and not "Bharti". But if you do that under the influence of Airtel - Bharti, then its OK.

And now......

Who is responsible for the security of NATO containers on Pakistani territory?

and yes, I have read this from multiple sources, it does not imply that containers are torched with the goods each and every time. If there is oil, food or weapons, then it doesnt need an Einstein to understand as to what the militants are going to do with them.

PS: If you really like the "Bhartiyas" so much, com on ever, u r more than welcome.

I love to see them having this phobia :partay: even they fart its conspiracy theory by ISI lolzz

Now idont know why Orange Media fart every now and then twisting words.
