CSL Delivers Six FPVs to Coast Guard -The New Indian Express
Cochin Shipyard Ltd (CSL) on Friday delivered the sixth in the series of 20 Fast Patrol Vessels (FPVs) being built for the Indian Coast Guard.
The protocol of delivery and acceptance was signed by Vinayakumar P, director (technical), on behalf of CSL and commanding officer (designate) of the vessel Cmdt (JG) Umed Singh of the Indian Coast Guard. Cmdt K Subramaniam, C&MD, CSL, DIG Vivek Vajpayee, principal director (Materials), Indian Coast Guard and DIG T P Sadanandan, CGRPS (Kochi), Capt RS Sundar, director (operations), CSL, Paul Ranjan, director (finance), CSL, were present on the occasion.
The vessel is named ‘CGS AGRIM’ and will be operated by the Coast Guard station in Mumbai. Cochin Shipyard had signed the contract for the construction of the 20 FPVs for the Coast Guard.
Like its sister ships, ‘AGRIM’ is a FPV capable of speed upto 33 knots and will be very effective in supporting the Coast Guard in its anti-smuggling, anti-piracy operations, fisheries protection and monitoring.
Since speed of the vessel is crucial in coastal security operations, the superstructure of these ships is made of aluminium.
A considerable amount of innovation in welding and fabrication techniques were undertaken by CSL to achieve a very high-quality product.
The ship is propelled by water jets powered by three main engines, each of 2720 KW capacity and built to the dual classification requirements of ABS and IRS.
Apart from the 20 FPVs for the Coast Guard, the CSL is also constructing the most prestigious warship of the country, the Indigenous Aircraft Carrier, one Offshore Support Vessel for Norwegian owner and one Buoy Tender Vessel for Directorate of Light Houses and Light Ships.
