CSIR to launch new supercomputer
PUNE: The Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) has issued a statement saying that it will connect all its laboratories located in Pune, Delhi, Hyderabad, Srinagar, Chennai, Chandigarh, and Nagpur through a supercomputer, which is to be launched soon. CSIR, in its statement said that this supercomputer will be located at India's first ever big data science institute in Bangalore.
The launch of the supercomputer by CSIR will mark its entry into the new field of data intensive scientific discovery. The supercomputer will have a speed of 360 tera flops, which will make it the fourth fastest supercomputer in the country and will be housed in the CSIR Fourth Paradigm Institute.
With the launch of this supercomputer, CSIR has decided to re-position its Bangalore-based Centre for Mathematical Modelling and Computer Simulation to deal with data intensive scientific discovery, which has come out as the fourth paradigm of science.
The supercomputer situated in the Bangalore-based Institute will form the backbone of the new venture and be helpful to all its laboratories that will be connected.
The laboratories based at these centers will have computing facilities between 10 and 50 tera flop capacity and is going to be linked to the supercomputer using the National Knowledge Network thus connecting 200 scientists and over 1000 students in the identified domain areas, said the statement.
