Crash of Dhruv Helicopters

Advance Light Helicopter (Dhruv) were inducted into Defence Forces in the year 2001. 08 (Eight) accidents have taken place since their induction, all of which, have been investigated by a Court of Inquiry as per extant instructions. Advance Light Helicopter (DHRUV) is a design & development project of Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd (HAL). Necessary modifications/upgradations have been carried out, on the basis of past experience, to cater to Defence Forces’ requirements.

This information was given by Defence Minister Shri Manohar Parrikar in a written reply to Shri Anubhav Mohanty in Rajya Sabha on Thursday, 30 July 2015.

Casuality Evacuation: ISRAELI Nationals

On 05 Jun 18, the ‘Himalayan Dragons’ based at Air Force Station Sarsawa were tasked to undertake a challenging casualty evacuation of three Israeli nationals whose vehicle had fallen down in a gorge on the way to Rohtang Pass. One Israeli succumbed to injuries. All three were evacuated in ALH MK III IAF helicopter from Kullu to Chandigarh, along with Israeli embassy official and Medical Officer.

The helicopter got airborne from Sarsawa and landed at Kullu Bhuntar and then from Kullu for Chandigarh with Captain of the aircraft Wing Commander Anil Yadav.

HADR operations by Indian Air Force

Many parts of North Eastern Command are completely isolated by landslides and floods due to heavy rains. State governments had requested Indian Air Force to provide urgent assistance for providing relief to the affected people.

Indian Air Force had responded immediately to the crisis and is extending all possible assistance to the people affected by landslides and floods through Humanitarian Assistance Disaster Relief (HADR) missions.

Five An-32 transport aircraft were deployed to transport NDRF teams and their equipment from Arakkonam and Calicut on 09 Aug 18.

In addition, two NDRF teams from Vijaywada and two team of Army Engineering Group from Bangalore & Hyderabad have been transported to North Eastern Command.

Two Mi-17 V5 helicopter and one Advance Light Helicopter (ALH) has been pressed into service for distribution of relief material and winching operations. On 09 Aug 18, three persons were winched to safety by North Eastern Command helicopters and 300 Kg of relief material was dropped for flood affected people. These helicopters continue to be deployed for relief and rescue operations even now and are being tasked as requested by the state administration.

The North Eastern Command will continue to provide HADR till the situation is normalized.
