LAHORE: The National Transmission and Despatch Company (NTDC) Limited has completed work on two 500kV transmission lines under the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC)-related projects.

The transmission lines are ready to evacuate power from 1,200MW RLNG Bhikki power plant and 1,320MW Sahiwal coal-fired power plant. Thus cumulative 2,520MW power will be inducted into national grid once the aforesaid power plants start generation.

A 500kV transmission line with 2.64km length has been linked with Lahore-Gatti circuit from switchyard of 1,200MW Bhikki power plant. Whereas another 5km-long 500kV transmission line has been connected with Sahiwal-Lahore transmission line, and both the projects have been completed before time.

NTDC Managing Director Dr Fiaz A Chaudhry has said that the NTDC is expeditiously pursuing its transmission line and grid stations projects. Interconnections for 1,200MW RLNG Balloki, 1,200MW Haveli Bahadur Shah and 660MW Engro-Thar coal-fired power plant will be completed before the commissioning of these power plants.

He said the Port Qasim power plant would be operational three months prior to its deadline and evacuation of power is required for the same. Hence, a 132kV grid station and transmission line will be constructed and connected with the K-Electric network as an interim arrangement to fulfil the requirement.

Dr Fiaz appreciated the NTDC engineers and contractor for early completion of both projects and directed to boost up work on other ongoing projects.
