Vietnam ranks 53rd in global prosperity index

According to a survey conducted in 142 countries which account for 96 percent of the world population or 99 percent of total GDP, Vietnam is placed 39th for its healthy economy, 73rd for business opportunity, 55th for national security, 61st for public administration, and 80th for education and healthcare services.

The country has earned higher points than the global average level in the areas of life satisfaction, life expectancy, people who are treated with respect and female representation in parliament.
However, it is lagging behind the global average level in terms of GDP per capital as well as internet access in family.

Topping the list are Norway, Denmark and Sweden.

The United States is placed 12th, dropping from the top 10 which includes Hong Kong and Singapore, while Asian “Tiger Cub” countries such as Vietnam, Thailand, Malaysia, and Indonesia, also rise in the index rankings.

The Legatum Prosperity Index is a unique and robust assessment of national prosperity based on wealth and wellbeing globally which benchmarks 142 countries around the world in eight categories: Economy; Education; Entrepreneurship & Opportunity; Governance; Health; Personal Freedom; Safety & Security; and Social Capital.
