Consumption to exceed 50% of China's GDP | Business Spectator

Consumption will become the biggest driver of economic growth in China this year, exceeding 50 per cent of the GDP for the first time, according to an official report from the Ministry of Commerce.

During the first quarter of 2015, the total value of retail sales in China reached 7.1 trillion yuan, an increase of 10.6 per cent. Though the growth in retail sales has moderated, it is still one of the fastest growing areas of the economy.

Researchers from the ministry believe consumption will account for 50.5 per cent of GDP this year.

The booming e-commerce sector is one of the key drivers of consumption growth, surging ahead by more than 50 per cent a year.

China’s consumption as a share of GDP is considerably lower than other major economies such as the United States, and eurozone countries.

Consumptions typically make up 70 to 80 per cent of GDP in these developed economies.

China naysayers were almost right I had to admit. By 2012 there were gross misallocations of capital and structural impediments to economic progress. China was heading toward a disastrous hard landing. Then Chairman Xi came in cleaned up the vested interest groups and engineered a soft landing. This is a great move in the long run. Nearly all China's social ills arise from rigid / inefficient economic structure coupled with dynamic growth in total output.

This will be a blessing to all China's trade partners. Imagine $5Trillion worth of goods will be consumed this year alone in China.

Good For China, good for her trade partners.

I am really amazed with this low rate of cinsumption ..Either they are heavily dependent on imports for their needs or they are piling up lot of wealth in foreign reserve ..Anyhow it only indicates chinese are a healthy priductive society and they have the luxury to import a lot ..
