General Elections 2018 to be held on July 25

President Mamnoon Hussain on Saturday approved a summary sent by the Election Commission of Pakistan recommending that the general elections be held on July 25, 2018, Radio Pakistan reported.

The polling for the national and provincial assemblies will be held on the same day.

Earlier this week, the ECP had sent a summary to President Mamnoon proposing holding of the 2018 general elections on any date between July 25 and 27.

Under Section 57 (1) of the Elections Act, 2017, the president holds the authority to announce the date for elections in consultation with the ECP.


The five-year constitutional term of the National Assembly and the Punjab Assembly will end on May 31 while the Sindh, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan assemblies will complete their terms on May 28.

According to clause 224 of the Constitution, elections for the national and provincial assemblies are to be held within 60 days following the day the term of the assemblies expires.

Its been proven without a doubt that its impossible to hold free and fair elections on a single date. Massive irregularities and allegations of rigging are reported when ECP holds election in a single constituency. Here we are talking about hundreds of them along with provincial seats. Imran Khan promised to change the election system. He promised to bring voting rights for expats. Yet in 5 years nothing happened. Its a repeat of 2013!!!

almost 1 year ago ECP rejected bio matric system with foolish excuse, and instead of rectifying the problems they permanently decided to not use bio matric.

ECP may not use electronic, biometric machines in 2018 polls

No political party asked from ECP that how other countries are using the same system.
Neither ECP did any effort regarding this sensitive issue of rigging. ECP would come with empty promises that there would be no rigging blah blah as usal. But the fact is that ECP is also corrupt instituion.. Sab mili bhaghat hoti hai Awaam ko chu banany ki.

Which App? When i was at karachi i observed how much organized Rigging is being done by MQM workers & polling agents, no App can do anything against that kind of dhandli until unless ECP & NADRA verify each and every thumb impressions of voters.

Dont be fool in trying to act smart.

There was a parliamentary committee to do election reforms. What happened to that? Since April 2016, the only effort from PMLN govt has been to defend Nawaz in his corruption.

I dont have much hope of fair elections as nothing has been done in last 5 years to reform the bad system. But I dont hope and pray that a party that has different ideas about things in Pakistan and which not a beneficiary of this corrupt system, wins. If the next govt is PMLN or PPP, then I honestly have no hope for this country.
