LAHORE: Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif has said that the Pakistan-China friendship is a glowing example of love peace and cooperation.
The chief minister made these remarks during a meeting with Chinese Ambassador to Pakistan Sun Weidong at the Embassy of People Republic of China in Islamabad on Tuesday.
He said that the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) would augur well for the economic development of the country.
He welcomed Chinese investment in different CPEC projects and expressed satisfaction over the volume of investment being made by the Chinese investors.
"There is no doubt that the CPEC is a game-changer, which has opened new avenues of development in Pakistan, while different countries along with Pakistan and China, will also benefit from the CPEC."
The Chief Minister maintained that Pakistan was among one of the rapidly emerging economies of the world.
He lauded the keen interest of the Chinese ambassador in trade and economic-related projects and said that the ambassador had encouraged investment in Pakistan by promoting mutual cooperation at different levels between the two countries. He has also encouraged Chinese companies to take benefit of facilities being offered by government of Pakistan
Briefing the Chinese ambassador about different facets of the provincial budget 2017-18, he said that funds had been allocated for different projects, including early completion of energy projects, promotion of education and healthcare, provision of clean drinking water, development of human resource and acquiring of latest technology.
Chinese Ambassador Sun Weidong said that Pakistan-China friendship and bilateral economic cooperation was being promoted continuously. He commended the efforts of Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif for promotion of Pak-China friendship.
He extended his good wishes to the people of Pakistan and appreciated the role of Pakistan government for enhancing trade and economic activities as well as promotion of Pak-China friendship.
Meanwhile, the chief minister Tuesday said that effective measures had been taken to provide daily commodities to the people during the holy month of Ramadan.
He added that Punjab government had given relief to the people in shape of the Ramazan Package worth more than Rs. 9 billion. "The people have been provided relief in the real sense in shape of subsidized flour for which Rs 8.78 billion subsidy had been given."
He made it clear that strict action would be taken against such profiteers and hoarders. He said that the Punjab government had given special powers to price control magistrates for action against profiteers and hoarders throughout the province.
"The purpose is to save the people from exploitation in shape of profiteering," he said and advised public representatives and police to leave no stone unturned in providing relief to the common man.
