CM okays plan to make Khaishgi Lake National Park

Chief Minister Pervez Khattak has approved in principle to give the status of national park to Khaishgi Lake and its adjacent vast forest on the pattern of Ayub Park, Rawalpindi.

For this purpose he directed for the appointment of an expert consultant of international standard to utilize the 1866 kanal of the lake and its adjacent 800 kanal area for tourism purpose. The chief minister also approved re-leasing of 284 kanal lake areas to PAF Academy Risalspur and establishment of Boating Club for the training of the jawans of Pakistan Air Force. These decisions were taken in a meeting held here in Chief Minister's Secretariat with Chief Minister Pervez Khattak in the chair.

Those who attended included Air Officer Commanding PAF Academy Risalpur Air Vice Marshal Rashid Kamal, Vice chairman Tourism and Investment Board Mohsin Aziz, Secretary Irrigation Mohammad Akbar Khan, Chief Engineer irrrigation Kamal Jehangir Khan, XEN Sher Aman, Chief Conservator Wildlife Mubarak Shah and other officials concerned.

On this occasion the chief minister constituted a high powered committee in the chairmanship of Mohsin Aziz for the establishment of national park on Khaishgi Lake and making it attractive for tourists up to nearby situated Indus River. Other members of the committee to be included were administrative secretaries of the departments of tourism, irrigation, environment and experts of the concerned sector.

The chief minister directed for proper planning and arrangement on international standard boating, fishing, wildlife, waters' sports and children entertainment facilities in the park and making it more attractive for investment under public-private-partnership.

He revealed that domestic and international level organizations and companies were in constant contact with them for investment in different sectors including tourism. He said that the services of such organizations could also be utilized in the development of Khaishgi Lake and National Park.

He said that the time is not for begging financial assistance from developed states and gripping ourselves in their slavery, but it is high time of going forward in a prestigious manner. He said that best mean for it is that we instead of depending on others should utilize our own resources and manpower in better manner. Then he said we can make progress with the fast pace like Malaysia, China and Japan.

Mohsin Aziz told the meeting that the committee would make efforts to develop not only Khaishgi lake and its adjacent about 2800 kanal land but also the banks of Indus River for tourism, picnic spots, boating, safari ships, fishing and jogging tracks. Similarly he said they would endeavor to also make it attractive for investment besides for the local and foreign tourists.
