CM Balochistan says Awaran is stronghold of Taliban who are attacking relief convoys.

ISLAMABAD (Online): Chief Minister Balochistan Dr Abdul Malik has appealed to Taliban in Awaran not to attack caravans carrying relief goods for earth quake affectees.

Talking to media he said Awaran is stronghold of Taliban.

“I appeal to Taliban not to attack caravans carrying relief goods and not to harm rescue teams.”

He said that Balochistan had been adversely affected by earthquake and a large portion of population has been destroyed.

“Damage caused by disaster is beyond estimation,” he said.

He appealed to people of Pakistan and philanthropists to extend help generously to the quake affectees.

“Provincial government will spend every penny honestly,” he said.

He said federal government has also set up special fund for quake affected people which is a good thing.

He indicated that Balochistan cabinet will be completed in coming weeks.

“I will implement all the decisions of APC for establishment of peace in Balochistan”, he declared.

Dialogue process is underway with the estranged Balochs for the sake of peace in Balochistan.

The external interference has caused harm to Balochistan and such interference is still continuing.

“I will establish writ of government in the entire province of Balochistan,” he said.

Awaran district: security threats hampering relief operations

Serious security threats to the rescue and relief teams in Awaran district of Balochistan, badly hit by the recent earthquake, is hampering rescue and relief operations, spokesman of Balochistan Government told Business Recorder via telephone from Quetta. Jan Mohammad Buledi said that militants on Friday attacked two helicopters carrying relief goods at a time when Chief Minister Balochistan Dr Malik Baloch, Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif and Interior Minister Chaudhary Nisar Ali Khan were on a visit to Awaran.

On Friday, militants again attacked two helicopters carrying relief goods in Balochistan's earthquake-affected Awaran district, he added. But, the helicopters also landed at Mashkay safely with relief goods for earthquake survivors. The spokesperson hinted that the rockets were fired possibly from the Mashkay area, where the Balochistan Liberation Front (BLF) has a base and is also the stronghold of a guerrilla leader. He added that the mountainous terrain, where rockets were fired on helicopters, has no road access and is the stronghold of BLF. Responding to a question, he said that no inquiry has so far been initiated into the matter. A former Inspector General Police of Balochistan said that the border between Pakistan and Afghanistan was practically non-existent. Weapons and arms are easily smuggled into the province from foreign countries. He hinted at India's support for the separatists as Indian consulates are located near Pak-Afghanistan border areas.

Last year, when insurgency was on the rise in Balochistan, police and FC seized India-made sophisticated weapons from various areas of the province. Human Rights Commission of Pakistan (HRCP) has expressed serious concern over Baloch insurgents' attempts to hamper rescue and relief operations.

Despite security concerns rescue and relief operation continue in the earthquake affected areas of Mashkay Awaran and Khuzdar by Pakistan Army and Frontier Corps troops.

Earthquake tragedy: BLF chief says international, private help welcome not army

KARACHI:

An impasse looms large over the relief effort in Balochistan’s earthquake-devastated region – an area known to be a hotbed of Baloch rebelswhich has already resulted in mushrooming clashes in the region. However, a top commander has offered a way forward through the mistrust between rebels and security forces: Let the relief effort be handled by private or international organisations.

Dr Nazar(BLF),a former student leader who is now often referred to as Balochistan’s most wanted rebel and is the most widely-respected leader among various separatist groups, said that the workers of private, non-government organisations or international bodies, such as the United Nations, would be welcomed by the rebels. They have nothing to fear from the side of the rebels, he assured, adding that there will be no attacks on civilian convoys. A military official in Awaran also confirmed that the rebels are attacking security forces and not civilians.

this guy is a very pro militant, it can be seen from the fact that he failed to condemn the attacks, he failed to condemn the attacks on ziarat residency

this guy may even be helping out anti state actors

the balochistan government didn't even bother to start relief work, and it didn't even tried to reach the effected area, it seems like balochistn government doesn't even exist

its even worse than aslam raisani's government

QUETTA, Sept 28: Despite a militant attack on an army unit in Mashkay and the killing of four FC personnel in Panjgur in a clash with gunmen, relief work was going on in earthquake-stricken areas of Awaran and Kech districts, sources said.
Balochistan Chief Minister Dr Abdul Malik Baloch, chief secretary and senior army and FC officials have been staying in Awaran to supervise relief and rescue operations.

About 16 NGOs, along with rescue and relief workers, have also arrived in the affected areas.

Officials have claimed that rescue teams and relief workers had reached all affected areas, but sources said some far-flung areas were yet to receive help. Thousands of people are waiting for shelter, food and drinking water. They are living under open sky with temperature soaring to 40 degrees Centigrade.

The Provincial Disaster Management Authority and district administration have provided tents but they are far from being enough.

It is not so far clear how many tents were supplied by the National Disaster Management Authority to Balochistan. The NDMA chairman visited Awaran and took aerial view of the affected area.

Official sources said that 25,000 to 30,000 families had been rendered homeless in Awaran and Kech districts because of the powerful quake.

Delegations of the residents of Awaran met the chief minister and apprised him of the delay in supply of relief goods.

Dr Malik assured them that he would stay there till the rehabilitation of all affected people. They would be provided shelter homes until their houses were reconstructed, he said.

Chief Secretary Babar Yaqoob Fateh Mohammad said: “We have provided 18,000 tents to the affected people.” Tents sent by Punjab and Sindh chief ministers would reach soon.

Meanwhile, the ISPR said in a handout that Pakistan Army’s relief and rescue operation had been geared up, despite incidents of firing by militants on army teams engaged in relief work. It said the army continued to provide relief to people in inaccessible parts of Awaran.

The ISPR said that 30 tons of food items, 2,500 tents, 1,000 blankets and a huge quantity of medicines and other goods were distributed on Saturday in Awaran, Terteej, Malar, Mangoli, Bazdad and Mashkay.

It said that miscreants in the Mashkay area attacked an army unit, which was engaged in relief operation.

In another incident, four Frontier Corps men were killed and two others injured when militants attacked the FC personnel going to the quake-hit area from Panjgur.
