CJCSC lauds role of HIT for bolstering deterrence of country
ISLAMABAD, Feb 24 (APP): General Tariq Majid, Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee (CJCSC) Wednesday visited Heavy Industries, Taxila (HIT). On arrival General Tariq was received by Lieutenant General Ayyaz Salim Rana, Chairman HIT and Lieutenant General (Retd) Israr Ahmed Ghumman, Secretary Defence Production.
General Tariq was given a comprehensive briefing by Chairman HIT on the ongoing and future development, production and re-build programmes of modern weapon systems and specialist equipment including tanks, armoured personnel carriers (APCs), artillery guns, armour protected security vehicles, bullet proof jackets etc through state-of-the-art Systems Manufacturing Factories (SMF), Heavy Rebuild Factory (HRF), Advance Armour System Research, Development Information and Integration Centre (AARDIC) and Development and Manufacturing of Assemblies and Components facility (DESCOM).
The briefing was followed by a detailed visit to all manufacturing facilities and HIT Education City where General Tariq especially met 71 children from FATA and Balochistan pursuing their studies gratis including boarding and lodging under arrangements of HIT.
CJCSC, General Tariq lauded the role of HIT in bolstering the combat worthiness and deterrence potential of Pakistan Army through cost effective production of state-of-the-art systems like Tank Al Khalid and APC SAAD which are comparable to any modern tank/APC in the world today. He particularly appreciated the efforts in hand to enhance the indigenisation levels including some of the critical core technologies, proposals for adoption of the concept of public private partnership and utilization of surplus capacity for local manufacture of nationally important commercial projects like wind mills and prime movers etc.
He also underscored the need to smarten the procedures for fully exploiting the export of defence industrial products thereby contributing to national exchequer and commended efforts of all involved for their dedication and sincere efforts towards attainment of stipulated goals and production targets.
