You know I have heard many descriptions of what the definition of civilization is is. Things like " measure of civilization is how a society treats it's prisoners" etc.

However I have concluded something more simpl- the following experiment. Walk out from where you are and if the following is normal then your in a civilized country and if not .......................

Okay here goes.

No.1

A Pavement or Sidwalk as the Yanks call it. I mean this is a no brainer and it's not like it's cost the price of Mars mission. The Harappans did with few bricks and labour 5,000 years ago. I mean it does not have to be fancy or huge. Just leave some space, couple of labourers and bricks but the benefits are manifold. Order, safety and lives saved.

2. Covered Sewer.

All this needs again is before you slap the bricks down why not dig a trench, slap some bricks on there and cover it up. Again basic common sense. No rocket science right?. Just bricks and manpower which unless all your country is made up of brain surgeons and no labourers you should be fine. If all your country is full of brain surgeons call some migrants.

3. Underground Cables.

We all need electricty right? We all know it is dangerous? So how about placing the cables somewhere safe? Yeh you got it. Why not while your digging the trench for the sewer ( 2) tell the labourer "get those muscles moving and mate dig another small trench so we can lay the cables into it". I mean let's face it cables underneath are safer coz anything hanging overhead is liable to fall down and wasting people unless hanging them in the air is some fancy clever way of controlling population growth and getting past the Mulah lobby who oppose any intervention in nature's ways's. A sort of post-condom condom in the air. In addition having them underground you can at least see the f*ckin sky.

Now these things are pretty basic, Non require Astro Physics or NASA space technology. All they need is communal planning, plenty of labour and bricks. Let's face it most countries are exactly short of these are they. To dig and lay bricks all you need is some uneducated bonehead. Most third world countries have over supply of them and not enough brain surgeons.

So do this test where ever you live in the world. If you tick on all three that means you have passed the basic test for civilized society, if you fail and have this cock up.

If this is what you have outside. You need to stop. Reflect and f*ckin scream. You need to go on the streets and say hell to the America, hell to the West, hell to everything but today we are going to emasculate our leadership for not dong the a,b,c of society. If you can't do that you frankly can't do nothing and cannot lecture anybody.

Revolution time.

If you don't then you deserve to live in the sh*tt pardon my French and stop b*tching about rest of the world coz guess what? You live in crap ...

So how you score? Is it revolution time or another boring day ?

The only thing missing is the will to do it. Also south asians need to learn civic sense, they would rather throw garbage where they r standing than making an effort to wait till they find a bin.

Is it not annoying? Pity !

Being able to live a life where the greatest fear you have is paying your bills, because the true sadness in life is that the people in the worst conditions dont even complain about it because they know no better. If I was to be placed in a city where there was literal shit in the street, no paving, food shops which were little more than someones house with an open window and no health and safety/standards etc etc I would go nuts but the people in those situations are used to it so what is civilisation if not relative to what you know. Civilzation I suppose is any conurbation regardless of quality where people can live a life, and as such the quality varies.

Very true. The difference between SL and UK is like sky and earth and it's almost unbearable to see it in this condition but if I speak about it, I get branded as "brainwashed wall" or "crazy" or something similar. What's even more surprising to see is that 90% of people belonged to the upper/middle class who have experience in studying and working in the west see nothing wrong with infrastructure in SL. They don't see an urgent need to develop the country.
