Cinemas to lift ban on Indian films from Monday

LAHORE:
Pakistani cinema owners are all set to lift the self-imposed ban on Indian films.

Speaking to The Express Tribune on Saturday, Chairman Film Exhibitors Association Zoraiz Lashari confirmed that cinema owners would begin screening Indian films across Pakistan from December 19 (Monday). “The cinema business has been hit immensely and all stakeholders felt it was the right time to begin screening Indian films. It was always a self-imposed suspension, not a ban. So I’ll be releasing Freaky Ali in our cinemas and other cinema owners will follow suit,” said Lashari

Meanwhile, an owner of a film distributing company, requesting anonymity, said the move was to pave way for a big release by a private media group in the country. “A big media group and film exhibitors and distributors in India are trying to release Dangal in Pakistan. They are testing public sentiments and also the government’s reaction by releasing Freaky Ali at CineStar cinema,” he added.

He went on to add how stakeholders in India were also being hit by the self-imposed ban. “We will first test waters with these unreleased films and then begin negotiations with Indian distributors to continue the import of movies into Pakistan,” he added.

“Our cinemas have already started firing people. Even Super Cinemas let 30 people go. Bollywood films drew 70% to 80% of our audience. So, without them, you have seen how Pakistani and Hollywood films have performed on the box office. The fact that Pakistani films have been subpar has also made people lose faith in Pakistani cinema,” Khorem Goltesab of Super Cinemas told The Express Tribune.

“Star Wars just released and it has only 20% to 30% occupancy, because Bollywood films kept the audience connected to the cinemas. For the last five years, this is what we have been working towards and now in the last two months, it has been spoiled,” he added.

In the current circumstances specially the behaviour of India at LOC... this is not a good idea... loathsome infact

. . . .
More than a month after the ban was put in place, Pakistani exhibitors are feeling the pinch with losses of Rs 10 million in daily revenue on weekends alone.Indian films had largely fuelled the cinema boom in Pakistan in recent years, with revenue from Indian films accounting for between 60% and 75% of box office revenues in Pakistan over the past three years. Salman Khan’s Sultan alone earned more than Rs 300 million at the Pakistani box office.

Over 200 cinemas were in the pipeline for construction. These plans have either been shelved or are on hold for now

Just simple as , people want to see their heroes Sharukh khan, Amir khan, and others on big screen.
People rejected home made films, few said lollywood is bad quality, while few other raised issue it is against Islam. We didn't promote home film industry.
Now,Cinemas will show what our public want to see

Pakistan parliament and senate specially, is under full control of RAW.
It is you , you blame every new leader of Pakistan, there is something wrong in mentality or you can't digest somebody success and it includes people whom you supported in past. Be man with big heart

.
I think the Ban should continue and if needed perhaps focus should be on imported movies from

Older Audience Movies

a) Hollywood
b) Hong Kong / China or may be even Asia (Fight / Action movies)
c) Turkey, Egypt , Iran

Family Movies
a) Ample movies made by Disney
b) Ample movies made by Third party movie makers
c) Animated movies for kids

Pakistani Documentary Movies:
a) Lower ticket charge but would attract Educated mature audience

Dubbed or Translated copies in Urdu

There is no shortage of good movie maker don't need to "Thook ker chat liya" attitude
Combined with Movies being made locally that is enough material for Movie goers

  • Cinema Owners can Buy songs from Pakistani Song Artist or SIngers , and play their performance before the start of movie , or mid point (interval) or end of movie 2-3 songs by Pakistani artist and that should give ample Entertainment

Put the Pakistani Band songs in Cinema on big screen for some Entertainment with Foreign Movies (Entertainment hi Entertainment)

Paisa Kharach karao to acha Khao

I am sure movies can be dubbed , giving more jobs to Local Pakistani actors for voice acting however plain Urdu Text translation on movie is also sufficient.

The small regional film industry in india also comes Rs 150 crore mark in india and all over the world, since quality films are made in many parts of india and one such as below.

Well, a movie industry can help and/or harm a country.. You need new movies regulary to build up an audience, and you need a big audience to finance the making of new movies.. So one might think that Pakistan needs to influence Bollywood, but i warn you that approach will backfire onto Pakistan even though it's entirely acceptable in a cold war like Pakistan vs India are going through at the moment..
The right thing to do for Pakistan is to steer things towards having more cinemas, more Pakistanis sharing movies and tv shows illegally and legally,
and to use both the foreign and domestically produced movies and TV series as one of the tools to manage public sentiment. If Bollywood makes an somewhat/overtly anti-Pakistani movie, make a movie that is critical of Indian cultural trends/customs.. Not so much for digesting by Indian audiences (they have no monetary need for that over in India), that counter-movie should be for consumption by Pakistanis.. And any message that needs to be delivered to Indian audiences might be brought to that Indian audience via the US Hollywood movie industry, or any other startup movie industry like the one in Doha, which has produced the rather good movie 'The Reluctant Fundamentalist'..

Pakistani Cinema really has to focus on Content , and Story Telling and this can be done by Many Box office

It is not necessary to import Indian movies

Movies are made world wide , and all are equally facinating and great story telling by various directors

Kids / Teens
  • Japanese Animation in Cinema (Dubbed in Urdu or Text on screen) million shows
  • Disney kids movies
  • Warner Brother kids movies
  • Third party movies (10-20 movies per year or more)
  • Thousand of quality Shows for kids

18-50 Year old
  • Hollywood
  • Chinese (Hong Kong)
  • Turkish , Iranian , Egyptian movies
  • Documentaries watch something that makes you SMARTER not c****yapa from India

Add a little Pakistani Touch
  • Pakistani Singers Songs
  • Song Videos Start / Interval or End of movie and you got more then money for your expenditure
  • Launch new artist / album songs for Pakistani Audience
  • Get movies dubbed with Pakistani voice actors work with Movie makers to release dubbed movies in Pakistani cinema

What is the point of importaing garbage ? Half of indian garbage has no substance , no story or any thing of value , just mirch masala and few dance sequence and there you go a masla movie

Pure filth , you become dumber watching a Indian movie

Its business stupid. A flurry of Pakistani movies was released off late but NONE could do any amount of respectable business. A cinema owner needs filled halls at the end of the day. Patriotism prevails till the belly is full. Its ironic but only obvious that stomach prevails over everything and existence triumphs.
