Chinese engineers and other staffers, engaged in the construction of M4 Motorway from Bahawalpur to Faisalabad, attacked policemen deployed for their security after the foreign workers were barred from leaving their camp's premises without a security squad, DawnNewsTVreported on Wednesday.

Several mobile phone clips doing rounds on social media show Chinese nationals approaching the police officials in a provocative manner and attacking them. A video showed a Chinese national standing on the bonnet of a police van, another video showed several Chinese nationals trashing policemen and some local people in plain clothes.

According to police officials, Chinese engineers and other officials wanted to leave their camp in Khanewal and visit a "red-light" area on Tuesday night. They resorted to agitation when denied permission to leave the camp without being accompanied by security officials.

Later, the Chinese engineers also cut power supply to the police camp established within the main construction camp, the officials added.

On Wednesday morning, the Chinese workers stopped work on the project and abandoned heavy machinery and vehicles on various roads in the area. They also resorted to violence and attacked police in their camp.

Subsequently, the protesting Chinese engineers wrote a letter to Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif, claiming that police officials refrained them from performing their duties and attacked them.

They also accused the security in-charge of attempting to hit the Chinese workers with his vehicle. Police officials, however, rejected the accusations and said they were fabricated.

Later in the day, Khanewal DPO Rizwan Omer Gondal held a meeting with the protesting Chinese workers following which they agreed to open the blocked roads.

Meanwhile, the police officials made it clear to the Chinese engineers that they will not be allowed to leave their camp without security arrangements.

This was not the first time when Chinese nationals in Pakistan attacked local police. In 2016, a clash occurred between the police and Chinese workers as the latter insisted on staying at a construction camp at night, but the former opposed the idea due to security reasons.

According to media reports, citing sources, some Chinese nationals associated with the Chinese army and trained in martial arts had attacked and injured police personnel deployed for their security.

However, the police had avoided taking any legal action against the Chinese to avert further conflict. In fact, the then CPO had suspended three SHOs and six other policemen for not restraining themselves from a clash.

Money talks.. Every thing else walks :-):-)

.
so ? A petty brawl by some unruly Chinese engineers is going to dent the solid China -Pakistan economical/political/military relationship ? As a reprimand, China should deploy these engineers along the Indo -China border

. .
So Chinese engineers tharshed local policmen and workers when they were stopped from visiting local brothels. Interesting development. Maybe Pakistan should provide such facilities to Chinese labour camps, so that Chinese workers do not have to take risks visiting such areas and thrash Pakistanis.

.
Lol, there was no 'thrashing'....watch the video yourselfs.

Infact, Pakistani policemen put these dumb chinese at their place and didn't allow them to leave the designated area.

Good job on that. Chinese are welcome to work on projects in Pakistan--but they are not allowed to do whatever they want. This instance reveals that no matter how 'frustrated' they get, they'd be put back to their place and won't be allowed to do things 'freely' while inside Pakistan.

Some time ago, some dumb Chinese christians (i think they were a couple) tried preaching Christianity in Pakistan and were instantly....killed.

Upon inquiry, when it was revealed that the killed Chinese were trying to preach Christianity---our interior minister's statement to Chinese officials was something along the lines of "Oh yeah. We found they were trying to preach Christianity. Can't do that in Pakistan. It's dangerous. Make sure from now on no Chinese engage in this sort of activity":lol:

So essentially Chinese were immediately put on notice about what and what not to do in Pakistan :azn:

PS, Pakistan should try to have as little non-Muslim foreigners as possible in our lands. (Non-Muslim) foreigners who are not used to our culture and lifestyle will always cause friction in the society. So better keep the number as little as possible and make sure they leave the country after their job/project is done.

Note: I am all for helping/sheltering friendly Muslims from all over the world since Pakistan is an Islamic state. Pakistan helped and sheltered Afghans, Bosnians, and even Rohingyas Muslims in times of troubles and that is really appreciated.

.
These poor Chinese workers ain't forced labourers or prisoners in Pakistan. One cannot impose police “protection” to make them feel that they are in a Pakistani prison!“Red distric” sounds bad,why does it exist in Pakistan in the first place?

He was actually telling the truth. A Chinese Christian couple were preaching in the province of Baluchistan and they were captured by militants. Unfortunately they died but that doesn't excuse there stupidity. Only a dumb fool will go to an area full of violence without no police protection.

How the hell are you excusing these workers behavior? If a foreigner did that in China the police would have put them in there place. When Chinese people come to Pakistan they must respect the law and it was the Chinese Government who demanded protection for all Chinese nationals in Pakistan. If you have a problem with that then make an appointment with the CCP leadership.

They are lucky that the Pakistani police showed patience because they are Chinese otherwise they would have gotten a good thrashing. This is coming from someone who is pro-Chinese just ask @AndrewJin
