This is not a new tv series. But I just recently stumble upon it. I have seen Chinese's take on various cultures before (some successfully, some not really). But you have to commend for them even trying for having the resources to do it. But usually not a show with a main character cast heavily non chinese and specifically about South East Asian.

I thought it is very successful. Mostly because of the writing, I probably want to read/watch more of this writer since he or she avoid many cliches and genuinely surprise me with twists in the story.

Was this show popular in China? And are there other shows of this caliber?

How do I describe this show? I only10 episodes in. But does have the usual political intrigue but mixed in with an adventure feel like the classic journey to the west. At time feel like a spy thriller, to a murder mystery, to a grand scheme conspiracy. And it has a very unique feel to it.

What's all this then? Any of the Chinese members wanna give me a synopsis?

Well it about a prince of Myanmar and his diplomatic mission to Tang dynasty of China. The real intention of it isn't known to me yet but it is disguised as a presenting the dance troupe to the Tang emperor.

IN Myanmar, one of the supreme general plotting to overthrow the ruling dynasty. In China, I am not certain but there are some political discord simmering below the surface as the two differences spy agencies in China coming into conflict. I think at this point, the real conflict has to do with a trade route. And I am not sure if this is the ancient Silk Road.

I can be wrong on things since I am watching a viet voice over. Great series. The writing is kinda on the same ballpark with show like Breaking Bad in the USA. And the cinematography is refreshing too compare to other shows.

China/Myanmar co-produced TV series premieres in Yangon

"Legends of Song and Dance", which tells the story of cultural exchange between the Tang dynasty and the Kingdom of Myanmar some 1,200 years ago. This joint Chinese-Myanmar television series based on a popular cultural legend has premiered in Yangon.

After years of elaborate planning and production, "Legends of Song and Dance" finally meets the audience in Myanmar. This is the first time Myanmar has collaborated with another country in such a way.

The story centers around the prince of Myanmar visiting China during the Tang dynasty, accompanied by a troupe of musical performers. It aims to bring to life the fascinating history of the period, and how the southern silk road promoted exchange between civilizations.

Yu Rongguang, actor/director of "Legends of Song and Dance", said, "Our script is in three languages, Chinese, the Myanmar language and English. We arranged our shooting around it and made adjustments on the set."

The series was shot in the ancient city of Pugam, home to the imperial palace and a once mighty empire. The city is rich in cultural heritage, especially its Buddhist relics and temples. Experts say the cast and crew have done a good job vividly reviving history.

U Win Kyaine, president of Myanmar Culture University, said, "I think the music and the dancing in the TV series are really authentic. The details, such as the arrangement of the music and the number of dancers, are very close to the historic record of that period. "

This is the first joint TV series production between China and Myanmar. And the participants hope it will pave the way for further cultural exchanges in the future.
