Chinese scientists develop new quantum computer with 113 detected photons

What position do you think I’d rather be in? The first country to space for bragging rights? Or the country that completely surpassed that nation in space capabilities and whose space programs are now on life support?

All that matters is the consistent investment in superior capabilities.

I was working on Quantum computing at one point and this is a very RF and photonics thing. In terms of generating very good spectrum purity signals as well as rapid feedback correction using FPGA, US definitely is better than China.

But somehow, US technologies are scattered all across different companies and lack of centralized effort to organized them to pursue single minded national goal of quantum supremacy. Dr Pan Jianwei achievements are far beyond US capabilities at the moment.

A team US engineers and their universities can make small systems with a few qubits working nicely. But making hundreds of qubits work need national effort.

US can simply mobilized her best RF and photonics engineers and beat China in a very short time if she manage to find a competent project manager having strong political backings.

I guess US losing the quantum race is not due to lack of talent but stupid people pervades at the very top of leadership.

Thank you for proving my EXACT point. Russia’s space program is on life support today, while the US has been to every planet, put men on the Moon, sent probes to interstellar space, first powered flight on another planet, fully reusable rockets, etc.

Now the US is developing private space stations, and a fully reusable Starship that will take humans back to the Moon and to Mars.

It’s all about continuous investment in superior capabilities and missions.

What is spectrum purity?
Plz don’t talk nonsense.
Photon is both: a weightless article and an electromagnetic wave in nature. as such represents a certain wave length.

Quantum particle spin control and the changes of Quantum state is achieved by using microwave or photons. Or we can say we use microwave or photons to program Qubits.

I just thought they work in different way not like the pics you show here. A photon in classical theorem has 2 binary states: on or off, 1 or 0. Or 2^1. If a photon can be 2^6 at any given time then it can take 64 possibility. Should mean 64 quantum bits or qubits.
Or am I wrong?

In Quantum, you throw away a lot but not all of classical RF. Even Einstein cannot explain Quantum. The schrodinger equation is just a probabilistic expression.

Einstein explained the nature of photon (and won a Nobel prize in physics). Quantum is something that comes much later.

Einstein is against the development of probabilistic nature of quantum theory. To him everything must be deterministic.

He is not against it. He just believes everything follows the laws of physics. Everything is set by God. He is right. However extreme small things as atoms or subatomic particles don’t follow the rules. Here comes unpredictability.

I don't know why some people are bragging.

It's an on going race, and China's efforts to reach the stage in very short time where others compete to remain ahead is commendable.

Today it's China, tomorrow, it might be the US, and China might excel day after tomorrow.

Because some troller have too much ego that cannot accept all of that.

Their ego would not accept that Chinese Technology indeed Leading in some aspect, like 5G, Quantum Communication, and in this case Quantum Computer

This guy. What a sad dude

Just drop the ego and accept facts. That China will forever be known as the first country to reach the exascale barrier for supercomputers. 100 years from now, this will be the fact.

The Chinese government didn’t place those systems on the Top 500 list because they expected those systems to be supplanted in less than 6 months by Frontier.

That’s all that needs to be said.
