Chinese police ID and arrest suspect among a crowd of 60,000 concertgoers using facial recognition software
A 31-year old man was identified by facial recognition software and arrested while attending a concert among 60,000 people in Hong Kong. The man was reportedly held for questioning regarding an "economic dispute".
Pop star Jacky Cheung's concert had just started when the man, only identified as "Mr. Ao" was approached by police and arrested in connection to an economic crime in the nearby Guangxi region. Mr. Ao's identity was detected by cameras inside the stadium equipped with facial recognition software.
A local police officer told China Daily: "The suspect was shocked that he was found among tens of thousands of people,"
Chinese authorities have been incorporating facial recognition technology more and more to surveil public places for persons of interest.
