Chinese military Vice Chairman meets Peru president
Peruvian President Ollanta Humala on Wednesday will get together with Vice Chairman of the Central Military Commission, General Guo Boxiong, who will arrive in Peru to strengthen bilateral cooperation and security ties.
According to the presidential press office, the gathering is to take place at 11.00 hours (16.00 GMT) at the Government Palace in Lima.
The meeting will be also attended by Foreign Minister Rafael Roncagliolo, Defense Minister Daniel Mora, and Chief of the Joint Command of the Peruvian Armed Forces General Ricardo Howell.
Later today, the Chinese high command, along with Minister Mora, is expected to place a wreath at Bolognesi square of the Army Headquarters, today at 15:30 hours (20.30 GMT). Following this activity, both of them will offer a press conference.
During the visit of General Guo Boxiong, both parties will discuss safety and technological development issues, and sign two important military cooperation agreements.
According to Perus Defense Ministry, the Chinese delegation, which is traveling though different Latin American countries like Cuba, and Colombia, will visit military stations of the Peruvian Armed Forces.
The visit of the Chinese high command to Peru takes place in times when military cooperation in Latin American countries has increased in the last years.
