The manufacturer of China's renowned FD-2000 air defense missile system on Wednesday denied media hints that the home-made missile system once again won a bid in Turkey.

"The media read too much into this. There is no new information on the bid," an executive of the China Precision Machinery Export-Import Corporation, the manufacturer, told the Global Times Wednesday on condition of anonymity.

The response came after a China Central Television report on the Langkawi International Maritime and Aerospace Exhibition said that the FD-2000 air defense missile system was confirmed to have won a Turkey missile system procurement bid.

The exhibition, also known as the LIMA Air Show, opened on Tuesday in Malaysia.

Wang said the report should be referring to the bid in 2013 when Turkey awarded the $3.4-billion bid to the corporation.

The bid was widely recognized as a landmark deal to prove that China's advanced weapon system could be used in NATO's defense system.

Turkey has yet to decide on its planned long-range missile defense system and contract talks with China are ongoing, an official for Turkey's Defense Industries Undersecretariat told Reuters previously.

Turkey's defense minister, Ismet Yilmaz, also said in February that Turkey had no plans to integrate a new missile defense system with the NATO infrastructure.

"The project will be financed with foreign funds. The bids have been assessed and no new bids were received," the minister said.
