Chinese city of Wuhan to build a 1000 bed hospital in a week from scratch to attend Coronavirus

upload_2020-1-24_18-56-16.jpeg

This is from Liberia during ebola crisis, with modular style building, 1 week is possible.

Construction began on the night of January 23 for a new specialized hospital for coronavirus patients in central China's Wuhan City. The hospital is designed to have an area of 25,000 square meters with 1,000 beds and will be put into use by February 3, officials said. The special hospital is being built in the Caidian District in the western suburb of the city. According to officials, the hospital will follow the building model of the Xiaotangshan Hospital. Beijing built the Xiaotangshan Hospital, a temporary medical center, to treat and control Severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS), which had spread rapidly on the Chinese mainland in 2003. The hospital was completed in seven days and admitted one-seventh of the SARS patients in the country within two months, creating a miracle in the history of medicine.

Because there are no beds left in the hospitals.

It could be a good thing or it could be a bad thing.

If they are building the 1000 bed hospital for overflow, then it would mean the normal medical service in the region is overstretched, which only mean 1 thing, that is the outbreak is bigger than they first imagine.

On the other hand, these cases need specialist care, not grouping them in a 1000 bed hospital. That is what Africa failed in containing Ebola, you want to divert patient to numerous other hospital where you have enough equipment and staff to look after them, instead of getting a massive treatment centre, which actually induced panic in public, where most of the patient just went there and die during the Ebola outbreak.

This is a vert delicate situation here, one need to balance the standard and level of medical care, and the public relation.

need to wait and see how the crisis develop...….

I hope they make a documentary about the process. Would be interesting to see what materials were used, how foundations were put in etc.

Can be done in 1 day.

As per the RUAG advertisement video - Installation of RUAG's 150 beds military field hospital modules = 24 hours
While the 1,000 beds Wuhan hospital modules which is about 7 times bigger will take 48 to 72 hours.

Not stated in the RUAG advertisement video are:-
Earth work = ?? days
Road work = ?? days
Transportation of modules from factory to site = ?? days
Drainage, 5G telecommunication, power grid etc = ?? days
Wuhan hospital will take 6 days to complete all of above.

150 beds RUAG military field hospital, but who has really completed the field hospital in 24 hours as advertised?

This container solution is pretty nice, you can scale up as you like. Modern, mobile, all that you want. 150 patients or 15,000 patients don’t matter. One container next to other container. Certainly all take time to bring the containers to the disaster site. I am curious too how the site hospital in Wuhan will be set up. I don’t think they build by concrete. That will take too long.

Absolute respect. China will manage and rid the virus. No doubt.

An Aljazeera report once said that American society was designed by lawyers while Chinese society was designed by engineers.

The upshot of engineer society is that things like this can happen at rapid pace.

Glad to see this is being taken seriously and hopefully it will be contained soon.
