There are at least four KJ-2000s in operation.

"
The AWACS aircraft designated KJ-2000 made its first flight in November 2003. Following some extensive flight testing at China Flight Test Establishment (CFTE) in Yanliang, Shaanxi Province and radar system testing at an airbase near Nanjing, Jiangsu Province,
the aircraft entered operational service between 2006~07. A total of four examples (30071, 30072, 30073, and 30074) are being operated by the PLAAF 26th Air Division based in the eastern Zhejiang province near the Taiwan Strait."

Finally after years of silence, without any note, the original first KJ-2000 prototype numbered ‘762’ re-appeared in a new splendid white-grey colour scheme with red and blue stripes quite similar to the already known Il-76MD engine testbed.
After the modifications – which had begun in late 2002 – were completed at the Xian Aircraft Company, the prototype was renumbered to “762” and repainted in a splendid white scheme with gray undersides,
wearing huge CFTE-logos on the tail and CFTE-titles (China Flight Test Establishment) on the front fuselage. In this configuration the KJ-2000 performed its maiden flight on 11 November 2003.
