China issued a white paper on democratic reform and the leap of development in Tibet over the past six decades on Wednesday.

The year 2019 marks the 60th anniversary of the campaign of democratic reform in Tibet, which was lauded as "the greatest and most profound social transformation in the history of Tibet."

There was no exaggeration. For centuries, Tibet was ruled by feudal serfdom under theocracy. Millions of serfs were subjected to cruel exploitation and oppression until democratic reform in 1959.

In old Tibet, serf owners decided a serf's fate and could insult, punish, trade, whip and even brutally kill their serfs at will.

Thanks to democratic reform, about one million serfs gained personal freedom and became masters of the new society. Their living condition has since improved dramatically.

"By abolishing serfdom, a grim and backward feudal system, Tibet was able to establish a new social system that liberated the people and made them the masters of the nation and society, thus ensuring their rights in all matters," the white paper said.

Tibet's population has grown from 1.23 million in 1959 to 3.44 million in 2018, and the life expectancy of the people in Tibet increased from 35.5 years before 1959 to 68.2 years now.

The reform unlocked the region's potential for development as well.

Tibet's GDP posted double-digit growth for 25 consecutive years as of 2017 and grew by 9.1 percent in 2018, among the nation's fastest.

Its 2018 GDP reached 147.76 billion yuan (22 billion U.S. dollars), about 191 times more than the 1959 figure, accompanied by a fundamental change and optimization in economic structure.

Tibet received more than 30 million tourists in 2018. Any foreigner who wishes to visit Tibet can apply through normal channels.

As a world-renowned tourist destination, Tibet has also seen significant progress in restoring biodiversity.

Tibet has become more open and more beautiful than ever. The sweeping democratic reform of the plateau region has changed almost everything, but the region's culture and tradition remain.

Freedom of religious belief in Tibet has been well protected after democratic reform. "Tibetan and other minority ethnic groups carry out their religious activities in accordance with native traditions," the white paper said.

As the white paper concluded, "The leap of Tibet's development fully demonstrates that its democratic reform conformed to the historical trend of the times and the fundamental aspirations of all ethnic groups in Tibet, and met the people's real demand for social progress."

I thought there were more monks and nuns in Tibet than 46K.

.
This is some facts that western society and those who always hold negative attitude when dealing with China do not want to accept: How could a communist China achieved so much more than a democratic and free India followed our steps?!!

I thought there were more monks and nuns in Tibet than 46K.
Today Tibetan Chinese has three millions population but in 1950s, it was merely 1 million.

Tibetan Chinese population has tripped, we should not use the current population number to mesure that of 1950s.

China Tibet with rough natural conditions, is hard to work with in terms of GDP improvement, fortunately, the population is only 3 millions!

Now comes Zangnan, either we take it by force or peacefully resolve the border issue. India is not going to resolve the issue peacefully. If the locals wants to be with slum dog, tell them to vacate the land coz this land belongs to China (Tibet).
I am tired with all the border talks. The talks will just keep happening with nothing good will come out of it. It's about time China does something.

.
I think more people now join in more productive economic activities rather than leading a parasitic life.
WOW, 46K bums wasting their life away doing useless prostrating on the floor.
They should show more sincerity by using only their bare hands and not use any protective palm boards.

That's what I am thinking too. The life of monks and nuns are just too dull for young people today.

When China’s overall national strength exceeds that of the United States, it is time to liquidate various problems with those countries that have invaded China’s territory and continue to occupy China’s territory.

You heared me well, that is our plan.

All of China's southern Tibet, China must take back, not for Indians to Tibet. India polluted dirty, stinking.

March 28 this year marks the 60th anniversary of the Serfs' Emancipation Day in Tibet. On Wednesday, China's State Council Information Office issued a white paper, elaborating on Tibet's development since the democratic reform took place over half a century ago.

In 1959, under the leadership of the Communist Party of China, the cruel serfdom system was abolished and one million Tibetan serfs, representing over 90 percent of the region's then population, were emancipated.

The democratic reform thus ushered in a new era of continuous development and progress for the residents of Tibet.

As a commentary by Xinhua pointed out, the democratic reform pulled Tibetan serfs and slaves out of their misery, while the founding of the Tibet Province and implementation of regional ethnic autonomy endowed local residents equal rights with people living in other parts of the country. Since then, Tibetan people became masters of their own lives.

Currently, there are 35,963 deputies to the people's congresses at all levels in Tibet. Of them, deputies from Tibetan and other minority ethnic groups account for 92.18 percent.

Not only has the autonomous region's political system been democratized, but it has also seen leaps and bounds in its economic, social and cultural fields.

After 60 years of rapid development, the region's GDP reached 147.76 billion yuan (22 billion U.S. dollars), about 191 times the 1959 figure calculated in comparable prices. Tourism has grown rapidly. In 2018, Tibet received 33.69 million tourist visits, with a total revenue of 49 billion yuan (7.29 billion U.S. dollars).

The Qinghai-Tibet Railway has connected the region to the rest of the country, boosting trade and tourism; the 15-year free and compulsory education has led to a college admission rate of over 75 percent among children of farmers and herdsmen; and traditional Tibetan health care knowledge gained traction after entering the UNESCO List of Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.

The changes taking place on the plateau are important beyond measure, but below are the most noticeable ones:

Super modern infrastructure, beautifully preserved nature and culture, wealthy population, today's Tibet. Heavenly land.

.
Without the social reform of 1959, Tibet would have been the same caste-ridden society as it had always been, just like our lovely neighbor today.
