The online ultra-patriots who have thrived in this highly controlled environment have unsurprisingly become party darlings.

Many of the highest ranking Weibo accounts for news commentary and national security matters are operated by such patriotic opinion leaders. These include Hu Xijin, former editor-in-chief of the Global Times tabloid, Guyan Muchan, an influencer who often writes commentaries on international events, and Sima Nan, well-known for anti-U.S. views.

They usually label themselves “news commentators” or “national security experts” on their Weibo pages, even though they generally do not offer detailed knowledge of defense or military subjects. Instead, they frequently jump on topics such as COVID-19 deaths in the U.S., “foreign influence” on the Chinese internet, and unsupported allegations that Washington has built bioweapons labs in Ukraine.

Nikkei extracted data from about 90 accounts with frequent patriotic posts on Weibo, and examined interactions between those accounts and media accounts over the past few years.

Interesting read. Eye-opener.

If the article talks about USA.

Then it's very accurate.

For China, never heard of it.

Except from USA own opinion.

Like the above article.

I do not see anything wrong to be patriotic. China has not invade others.

US keeping attacking others and killed n x 10 millions since WW2.

Today US is supporting neo nazi in Ukraine.

Any Chinese in the media who says some positive things about China and some negative things about US and the West is a CCP Commie bot to you American fanboy, such Chinese behaviour is abnormal and should not the allowed right while the Westerners in the media can bash out on China as much and as often as they want with no questions asked.

Well, this is about party-led propaganda.

Online patriotism? Which country doesn't have it? China is no more or less than any other countries.

Don't attempt to derail.

Party propaganda machine using individuals to stoke patriotism for political ends is mentioned here. It is a machinery manipulating people and using them collectively. Not simple patriotic feelings individuals hold privately.

What is unsupported ? You want BBC to confirm them ? It is fact that Russians found bioweapons labs in Ukraine that were collaborations not only with USA but also with Israel. One was developing weaponized rabies that would have no cure and would spread through humans biting each other. Throughout the world.

Your eyelids will go to the very top if you read about the online work of the Hindutvadis in India and wherever they are spread. :) Their utter irrationality, obscenity and genocidal violence. Below is a presentation by the generally sensible India-origin citizen journalist Dhruv Rathee here interviewing Mahavir, a former member of the notorious IT Cell of the BJP, the fascist, genocidal and terrorist party ruling India. Mahavir did this interview at considerable risk to his life :

No one in the world, not even the Western governments, can spread hatred as effectively as the Hindutvadis.

It is good that you have domestic free press to report it.

So you do not have to read it on the foreign press.

Interesting Western source.usy have sold well. I can dig more for you.

Because no such publication in China about China's party propaganda, it must be a very clean place.

Just like 1 more COVID fatality in the past 10 days.

If China's state media does not say it, it did not happen.

I m in Beijing and I just had it 2 weeks ago, all my families and friends and everyone I know had it last month and they all recovered within a week. so what told you that crap? your beloved western media?

Yes, there is some domestic free press but that is despite of Modi and not because of him. :) There is the case of the journalist Siddique Kappan who is in jail in BJP-ruled Uttar Pradesh state for the last two years, since September 2020. He was going to report from a village in UP called Hathras where a Dalit girl had been raped by upper caste Hindu men, tortured and murdered. The local police knew who the perpetrators were and the BJP government was protecting them. The local police shut the girl's family in their house one night and took the girl's body to a field and burnt it.

The Hindutvadi thugs and their protector government were stopping people from going there and investigating and lending support to her family. Siddique is a journalist in Kerala in the south of India and he took a hired car to Hathras but was grabbed by UP police and they immediately jailed him. For what ? For doing his job of being a good reporter. The central government and the state government filed the draconian non-bailable UAPA law against him. They claimed contradictory things, that he propagandized for the mullahs of the PFI group but they also said he propagandized for the Communists. And I read some days ago that they had filed a "money laundering" charge against him. Somehow the Supreme Court has removed UAPA from his charge list but there remain others. It is not easy to be jouranlisting in Modi's New India. :) But Modi's people released a book called "India, mother of democracy" which of course is a mix of Hinduism mythology and twisting of history.
