China's new fishery admin ship withstands test at Diaoyu Islands - People's Daily OnlineDecember 06, 2010
After more than 2,300 nautical miles of voyage over 20 days and nights, China's most advanced fishery administration vessel No. 310 has made a triumphant return from the waters off the Diaoyu Islands and will dock at Xizhou Pier in Guangzhou today.
This is the maiden voyage of No. 301, which started on Nov. 16, and also is the first time for the fishery administration vessels Nos. 301 and 201 of the South China Sea to enter into the Diaoyu Islands to undertake missions of cruise and fishing protection.
Over the past 20 days, China's fishery fleet cruised in all waters of the Diaoyu Islands. This is the first time that the Chinese fishery administration ships carried out cross-sea cooperation.
Under the unified organization of the fishery center of the Ministry of Agriculture, the vessels from two sea areas had a smooth cooperation and laid a good foundation for the cooperation in the next stage, according to relevant officials of the fleet.
When encountering the Japanese ships, the fleet withstood the test.
"In the course of demonstrating China's solid confidence, determination and capability to safeguard maritime rights and interests, the equipment and the performance of vessel No. 310 underwent a comprehensive test," said an official from China's fishery administration.
In recent years, battles over maritime sovereignty, rights and interests, which have involved island disputes, resources seizing and the detention of fishermen, are increasingly fierce.
After Chinese and Japanese vessels collided on Sept. 7, China's ministries of foreign affairs and agriculture stressed that regular patrols would be conducted in waters of the Diaoyu Islands to safeguard national sovereignty and protect fishermens safety and production in the areas.
So it is significant for China's most advanced fishery ship No. 301 to move into the Diaoyu Island.
