China's Muslim Gulag - persecution of Muslim citizens

Extracts from Article -

Amid the protracted conflict and rising Islamophobia in China, Communist Party officials are responding by creating a surveillance state. In the 12 months preceding September 2017 alone, the party-state advertised nearly 100,000 security positions in Xinjiang. Every resident of the region has been affixed with the label “safe,” “normal,” or “unsafe,” based on metrics such as age, faith, religious practices, foreign contacts, and experience abroad. Those deemed unsafe, whether or not they are guilty of wrongdoing, are regularly detained and imprisoned without due process.

Estimates indicate that as many as 800,000 individuals, mostly Uighurs, have been incarcerated in the re-education camps. Based on the current population of Uighurs in Xinjiang, which stands at some 11 million, this amounts to the extrajudicial detention of nearly 10 percent of the ethno-national group.

The man, from a middle-class Uighur family, came to study in the United States a few years ago. He succeeded in the Chinese education system, even earning a degree from a university in eastern China. In 2017, Iman flew back to China for the summer recess, planning to spend time with friends on the east coast before he returned to Xinjiang to see his mother. Despite the exhaustion from the long flight, he was filled with joy as he landed in the Chinese metropolis where he’d previously lived for several years, despite the discrimination he would likely face. Ethnic minorities in China, especially Uighurs, are often denied hotel rooms.

As he remained strapped in his seat, a flight attendant approached. “They are asking for you,” the woman told him. “It’s probably just a visa issue.” Her words were of little comfort — after all, he possessed a Chinese passport.

Iman was held for nine days in a local jail while the border authorities contacted law enforcement from his hometown in Xinjiang. He was the only Uighur in a room of 34. On the ninth day of his incarceration, the police squad from Xinjiang arrived. They cuffed Iman tightly and transported him to the train station. “Are the handcuffs necessary?” Iman asked. “Don’t ask questions,” one officer demanded. “We are being lenient — you are supposed to be shackled, too.”

An officer took his photograph, measured his height and weight, and told him to strip down to his underwear. They also shaved his head. Less than two weeks before, Iman was an aspiring graduate at one of the top research universities in the United States. Now, he was a prisoner in an extrajudicial detention center.

Still in his underwear, Iman was assigned to a room with 19 other Uighur men. Upon entering the quarters, lit by a single light bulb, a guard issued Iman a bright yellow vest. An inmate then offered the young man a pair of shorts. Iman began scanning the cell. The tiled room was equipped with one toilet, a faucet, and one large kang-style platform bedsupa in Uighur — where all of the inmates slept. He was provided with simple eating utensils: a thin metal bowl and a spoon.

The Chinese Communist Party’s approach is radical but one officials will not abandon anytime soon. At a recent security meeting in Kashgar in Xinjiang, a Han Chinese official tolda crowd of Uighurs: “You can’t uproot all the weeds hidden among the crops in the field one by one — you need to spray chemicals to kill them all.”

In case any of you thought minorities in democracies had it bad, this article is a must read. 10% of the population in extra judicial custody?
This is utter bullshit, not sure about the percentage of incarcerated then again half of the population in xinjian are han, so no there are not 11 million kibabs living in xinjiang. Plus this articlace has no credibility, you expect us to belive someone without any history or can’t nnection to some party that china might view as dangerous was just arrested and sent to prison for nothing, just for being kibab? Then what about all the kibabs in Shanghai, Beijing, Guanzhou, Hong Kong, Nin xia, why aren’t they arrested, but somehow a innocent student who has no hsitory eith the govt was randomly arrested, this article does not respect our intelegence.

Is this true?
Just Search NingXia in youtube and you will see how chinese muslims really live, these kibabs are not targeted becous of their religion, but because of their idiology

.
Another day in China , I'm curious has Any politicians from these regions reached any high political position.

Foreign Policy Magazine Why Am I Not Surprised

Even so, China has come a long way in terms of human rights after the Tiananmen massacre. I doubt the figures given in this article. Such practices may exist but not on such a large scale.

You smoking pots? Massacre is something happening day in day out in the Middle East, especially the Jews and US slaughtering endlessly Muslims. Tiananmen Incident is nothing but fabrication aimed at smearing China, if you are still buying into that crap you are no better than those brainwashed sheep.

Is this true?
They are citing "Radio Free Asia" a well known U.S. funded NGO that exists for the sole purpose of obfuscating traces and cutting off responsibility of U.S. state controlled media propaganda against China with this "foreign" proxy or chains of proxies like here using the less apparent and less blatant but just as biased "specialized" Foreign Policy Magazine as they "cite" the made up stuff and spins about China of them to feed it diggested trough the mainstream media to the ignorant masses, who are ironically thaught that its the Chinese who are wholy kept ignorant and exclusively fed propaganda.

You have to be either just dishonest, really dumb or ignorant to take this garbage serious. Its not even worth to read in between the lines.

Read the article. Such behavior was common practice in Soviet Union - when you have one party, an opaque system, no freedom of journalists - you can pretty much get away with anything.

For all our ills and our mutual mistrust, even if we have news channels which are borderline insane - we live in countries where there is at least some kind of accountability and transparency. People take to the streets and express their anguish and anger when a Nirbhaya is raped or a Mashal Khan is lynched. No such luck in China.
When you impotent Indian elect impotent leader again and again through you so-called vote, but you are still impotent, leave your democracy for yourself, no one here are jealous of your freedom, of course you are enjoying it, you can talk anything free, but can't solve the real problem, this is indian, Be raped freely, and show you anger on raping freely; be corrupted freely, and show you anger on it freely; shit everywhere freely, criticizing them freely; but all these you can't solve them.

India is a joke!:coffee:

Do you know what's is human right? do you know what is gender equality? do you know human first, above God?

In the world, you exist not only for yourself, if you affect other first, then don't just complain you are limited by law and other group.

I have no doubt that this @Jackdaws like to dig some dirty story to drive a wedge between Chinese and Muslim people here, sure there is some drama over religious issues in China not only Muslim but Christian too. But he probably dare not to expose how Indians mistreated Muslim people.

Right. Lol. As if an article would drive a wedge between the entrenched people who post here with their preconceived notions. Let me twirl my moustache while I do that.

A mouthpiece of the US intelligence analysis community is supposed to be taken seriously.????

.
As I said, we are proud of it , and it was nothing when comparing to the crimes your former west master committed, treating you brownies worsen than animals over 200 years, slave vending and drug trading.

We messed up? I am happy for that, and that is why we can become second largest economy in the world after that cleanse, without resorting to colonization and robbery like west. What brought to you brownies after following your former colonizing master's guidance over 70 years? The largest toiletless shithole in the world and poorer than africa. Keep enjoying your slum life with occasional pat from west on your filthy head.
Lol. What a tirade. No wonder no one takes the Chinese seriously.

One can counter with facts or just assume it is all a conspiracy.

Calm down. No point in hyperventilating. Feel free to open threads about India's hygiene or its rape or whatever propaganda your Communist party feed you. Don't derail this thread - and stick to counter arguments if you have any.

We pity you enough to take in 100,000 of your citizens in as refugees. And Chinese people are not known for their hygiene. But this thread is not about that. You are trying to derail it.
This thread is about how the gulags in China.

ohh so now all of sudden indians care about Muslims?
All of a sudden? India has 200 million + citizens plus has great relations with all Muslim countries - probably better relations with them than Pak does.
