China's major shale gas field sees breakthrough in output

I've long hoped to see greater focus and investment in natural gas vehicles so we can cut dependence on imported oil (vulnerable to blockade) and make use of our shale gas reserves, largest in the world. Let's see if the 14th 5-year-plan (2021-2025) makes any mention of it.

With current breakthru in a lot of green energy, shale gas looks useless. Especially now the price is so low.

This finding is not so much use for China. If China succeed in making the fusion energy, all this shale oil or even finding in SCS will be useless. Especially the fact, more and more application and propulsion are electrify. Combustion energy are more and more redundant.

I'm not really concerned about price, more about a blockade during war. If we can adopt electric cars en masse running on domestically generated energy, that's just as good.

As for relying on fusion energy (!) ... I want a backup plan lol, just in case it doesn't work.

As for blockade, not to worry so much. Current China own oil production are still near 50% of own uses especially if war started, that is more than enough for any military application. There are still many oilfield not used in China as buying overseas is cheaper, second is uses as reserve if prices rose to very high price.

But I can tell you, oil price will never go high again. The usage of oil is numbers. Electricity is the way to go. China scientist just announce a plasma engine working concept which can be a scale up to give good thrust for passenger airplane. This will be another final nail for fossil fuel. Soon fossil fuel will reduce to making plastic only.
