China’s island construction facilitates navigation freedom
By Ai Jun -- 2015-9-17

Western media has once again hyped up the issue of China's construction activities in the South China Sea. According to media reports, satellite images suggest that China is building a third airstrip in the area. China's Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Monday responded that China has indisputable sovereignty over the Nansha Islands and their adjacent waters. Construction activities made by the Chinese side on some islands and reefs in the Nansha Islands are completely lawful, reasonable and justified.

As usual, the focal point of the Western media is still deliberately being guided toward military use.

According to reports, Greg Poling, an expert from the Washington-based Center for Strategic and International Studies, has claimed that "if it does turn out to be a runway, China will have three airstrips that can carry any plane the PLA has to offer."

Washington has continued to parrot their line that China could threaten the freedom of navigation, while speculating that Beijing is trying to put the islands in the South China Sea into military use. However, there has not been a single case of maritime traffic being affected in the area.

When it comes to island reclamation, Washington should stop applying double standards by overstating China's every single action, while downplaying others' provocations.

Countries including Vietnam and the Philippines have built airstrips in the islands in the South China Sea. More importantly, relevant construction in the water by the Chinese side falls entirely within China's sovereignty, which does not affect or target any other country.

Military confrontation in the South China Sea is not an immediate possibility. The airstrip can totally be a civil facility. So why focus on its military purpose only? Since a round trip by sea from the island to the Chinese mainland requires at least a week, building a runway can largely upgrade the convenience of providing not only China itself, but also the international community with more public goods and services, such as responding to emergencies and enhancing the efficiency of marine search and rescue operations.

China cares about freedom of navigation in the South China Sea more than any other country. Disputes should be resolved by exercising restraint, not by speculation.

I think China foreign minister need to stop justifying and repeating the same stuff. Either ignore the western reports or come out and say, "yes, we are building military facilities. We welcome our Vietnamese and Pinoy friends to come join the party--"

You know repetition is a good way of changing perception. When it comes to the Western audience, perhaps the rate of repetition needs to be doubled.

As they will get to understand the facts, China will have to repeat less.

China's development will help prevent incidents like this:

Ship with 500 tons of cargo goes missing in South China Sea
September 9, 2015

A ship with 14 crews and 500 tons of cargo went missing on Saturday in the South China Sea on its way from Kuching to Limbang of Malaysia's state of Sarawak, local media reported on Wednesday.

Malaysian English language newspaper New Straits Times quoted Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) Sarawak enforcement chief First Admiral Ismaili Bujang Pit as saying that the vessel, registered as "San Lian," departed from Kuching Port Authority on Sept. 2 and was expected to arrive in Limbang on Sept. 5.

"However, the vessel didn't reach Limbang as scheduled and the owner failed to contact his crews," he added.

Chinese is seapirate.

China is the anchor of peace and security.

We are particularly concerned about maritime safety and security.

The world's first polar heavy transport vessel has been launched in Guangzhou, China.

Work on the ship is underway, but the Chinese-built vessel will soon be ready to transport massive pieces of ocean engineering equipment to outlying polar regions.

Stop post propaganda here in this forum. Chinese invaded and killed Vietnamese there.

Vietnamese people never forget it.

Peace through strength. Weakness often results in chaos. Every region needs a major power to protect the interests there. In East Asia, it is China.

Middle East is in chaos because there is no regional great power there.

China is troubles maker here in Asia. China is reason for chaos here. China rise is dangerous for peace of region.

It is just the opposite. If there is peace and tranquility in East Asia, it is because of the presence of a great power that won't allow unilateral action by the US there.

Compare that with Middle East or the Latin America of 1960s, 70s, 80s...

A great power is always a strong deterrent for reckless extra-regional intervention.

Provocative activities of China in East Sea and South Sea is reason for that Japan has changed the legislation, Japan Diet has approved the bill for that Japan Army could joined with ally in oversea. At this moment USA is declared the policy to sift his military presenting in to Asia.

Please note that, in terms of percentage, Japan has more territorial disputes with its neighbors than China. So, no, it is Japan's own militarism triggered by the rise of China that helped change the legislation.

When we were strong and powerful, there is peace and stability in Asia Pacific. When we were weak and powerless, there is chaotic and war caused by greedy wolves and imperialists. This is historically true for over 4,000 years.

In this moment China is more aggressive than Japan. China has misunderstood the situation here in Asia and in the world. China has triggered Japan right-wing politicians to have opportunity, capacity to rearm Japan Army, and Japan could join with USA in future conflicts in Asia. DO China Showing your China's military muscle ? it is big mistake of China.

In fact China helped Japan to Change his peaceful legislation, which is set up after WW II by USA. Good luck for you China.

your troll disclosed that you are low educated boy, in 1940 France colonials should have to fight counter Japanese invasion based on Agreement signed in 1893 with the Nguyen Dynasty Vietnam, but France Vychit govt was cowardice, shaked hand with Japanese Nazi to rule Vietnam.

Pls note that Vietminh Guerrilla troops (VPA) is established by Ho Chi Minh in 1944, and in 1945 Vietnamese people had stood up and has regained our Independence from Japan-France by ourselves.
Kid, know your ancestor history. The Vietminh was originally found in Nanjing in 1930s. It was trained and taught by us. Ho Chi Minh only later revived the Vietminh in 1941 to oppose Japan colonialism and later fought a full blown independent war against France with the help of the US and China.
