Indian troops join Chinese celebrations

STAFF Reporter

GUWAHATI, Oct 1 – The Chinese border troops opposite the Kameng sector, on the occasion of 60th National Day of the neighbouring country, invited the Indian counterparts to join them in their celebrations at Bum La in Tawang district of Arunachal Pradesh today, said an Indian Army release. The occasion witnessed Indian Army officers and soldiers along with their families joining the Chinese counterparts in their celebrations on the Chinese side across the Line of Actual Control (LAC).

It is pertinent to note that PLA officers and families had attended the 63rd Independence Day celebration at Bum La on August 15, which was hosted by the Indian Army.

Border Personnel Meetings (BPMs) at Bum La play a pivotal role in enhancing the bonhomie between the two emerging Asian giants along the Sino-India border.

The interaction between the Indian and Chinese armies started initially with flag meeting and later transformed into BPM since May 30. Since then it has become a regular event here.

This year, the event commenced with the Chinese delegation leader welcoming the Indian delegation Leader Brigadier CP Mohanty at the heap of stones in Bum La.

Flag-hoisting ceremony by the Chinese side followed this. The delegations interacted with an aim of furthering the growing trust and confidence between the two great nations. Both sides once again reaffirmed their resolve to strengthen friendship and to maintain peace and tranquility along the border.

The Chinese counterparts hosted a cultural show depicting the cultural heritage of their country, the press statement added.
