China to Import Beef And Build Slaughterhouses in Pakistan

The Deputy Consul General of Pakistan in Chengdu, Mahmood Akhtar, has announced that Chinese investors want to build slaughterhouses in Pakistan to improve Pakistan’s beef export capacity.
Mahmood Akhtar said, “There are already many smart people in the Chinese city of Chengdu who want to develop slaughterhouses in Pakistan”.
China has a high demand for beef which is why efforts are being made to introduce Pakistani beef in China. For this, the quarantine authorities in Beijing are expected to visit Pakistan to observe the local slaughterhouses.
Akhtar explained,
As this is a new development, a number of businesses are interested but they need to find the right partners who are familiar with the local environment. Additionally, the export of fresh products requires the construction of supporting facilities like cold storage.
The President of the Pakistan Sichuan Chamber of Commerce (PSCC), Li Hongwu, said,
Li Hongwu added that the member companies of the PSCC had intended to visit Pakistan at the beginning of 2020 to initiate the entire beef export chain from the breeding to the marketing but the plans had been halted because of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Another report has revealed that Pakistan’s exports to China increased by 30 percent in November, resulting in an improved trade balance between the countries.
