An analysis of foreign tourist inflows over a decade shows among the top 15 source countries, those that witnessed the highest growth are in Asia.
Between 2003 and 2013, tourists from China grew more than 700% while those from Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore, Japan and Nepal increased by more than 150%.
An important caveat while reading the numbers: The relatively low increase in tourist inflows from the UK, Canada and the US might have something to do with the implementation of the PIO (People of Indian Origin) and OCI (Overseas Citizen of India) card schemes. Both allow holders visa-free entry to India, which might be depressing the numbers from these countries.
